2021 Resident Evil film Director Johannes Roberts reveals the official title and details about the upcoming film.

According to director Johannes Roberts, the upcoming 2021 Resident Evil film will be titled: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. The setting of Raccoon City portrays a vital role. The film will be a reformation of the first two Resident Evil games and provide an origin story. Additionally, the film will follow the original Resident Evil characters: Claire and Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Leon S. Kennedy.

Clearly Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will not have anything to do with the previous film franchise. It has a separate origin storyline formed in the depths of the classic games and the biosphere of terror. Furthermore, set in the year 1998, the film will follow the events that took place in the city under blockade from infected zombies. We can also expect to see the mansion from and the police station from the first two games in the film.

The studio has also announced the main cast. Kaya Scodelario, The Maze Runner (2014), will play Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen, Ready Player One (2018) will play Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell The Tomorrow People (2013) will play Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper, The Umbrella Academy (2019) will play Albert Wesker, and Avan Jogia, Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) will play Leon S. Kennedy.

Additionally, a couple of other Resident Evil related films are in development, but this movie is not related to the Netflix project, and the series spinoff. Constantin Film, the production company that created the film franchise, is working on Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Moreover, this attempt at adapting the survival horror games seems to be focusing its storyline on horror. Sadly, we are not gaining a new film from the previous Resident Evil franchise. On the bright side, we will have a new horror film. Even though the franchise was action-horror-based, the video game is packed with even more horror. Hence, we can expect to see the same level of terror in the film. Gamers will no doubt have a better understanding of the upcoming film. Nevertheless, the announcement of the film is exciting news and I know Resident Evil fans are eager to watch the new film.
