Frozen With Fear

Frozen (2010) is a thriller film written and directed by Adam Green (Hatchet, Victor Crowley) starring Emma Bell (Final Destination 5), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, The Ruins), and Kevin Zegers (Dawn of the Dead, Wrong Turn).

This movie tells the story of three college students who decide to spend a weekend snowboarding and skiing. After not getting too many runs in on a particular day, they go back for one last ride. With a storm approaching and it getting dark, the lift was about to be shut off for the night. Somehow they manage to convince an employee to let them have one final go on the chairlift. Due to a misunderstanding the trio finds themselves stuck high above a snowy mountain. Knowing the resort won’t be opening back up until the following week, they have to make some hard choices in an attempt to get out of this life threatening situation.

This is a suspenseful movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, giving you chills and filling you with terror. I found myself sucked into their situation, feeling their pain. I can’t imagine ever facing what they faced. This movie has the ability to make you ponder the past, present, and future. It reminds you not to waste time arguing and instead cherish your friendships.

For the most part this is something that could happen in real life. At a resort only open on the weekends, it is possible for someone to be left up there for days until the resort opens back up. The idea of that really happening is unsettling. The horror movies involving a realistic story are the ones that always scare me the most.

The characters make a few choices that most intelligent people would not have made, but that does make the film a bit more unpredictable though. Plus, no one knows what they would do in this situation until it actually happens to them.

Death Of Me Review

One might not think a film that takes place in a single location for the majority of the timeline would be entertaining, but it actually wasn’t too bad.

The dialogue was a bit awkward and long in places. Being stuck in one location, it makes sense to include those sappy discussions to break up the scary suspenseful moments. If you were in this situation and thought you were going to die, I’m sure you would reminisce on the past while you still had the chance. That being said, some of the conversations still seemed a little long and unnecessary. The strong performances from the three make up for it.

Green did a fantastic job! Doing a little reading on the production of the film it is clear that he put a lot of energy into creating this one. It was all shot practically using an actual ski lift and they filmed the movie in chronological order. There are even some animals involved in this movie, none of which were CGI. Knowing all of that made me appreciate it a little more.

If you are looking for a thriller movie with nothing but excitement, this one might not satisfy you. That is not to say it lacks those moments, it’s just not the entirety of the movie. As a survival horror film, it’s pretty scary! There were a few scenes that made me physically flinch and shudder.

This movie was super sad and definitely not an upbeat feel good film. In the end I was moved by the story and what each character was forced to face.
