The Evil Dead franchise has been delighting horror fans since the early 1980s, when the sleeper hit film of the same name, directed by Sam Raimi and produced by Raimi, Robert Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell was released. The Evil Dead (1981) spawned a media franchise and the lead protagonist, Ash Williams, has become a cultural icon. It’s been 40 years, and horror fans can finally enjoy a gaming experience that allows them to step into the shoes of Ash Williams or one of his friends from the iconic franchise. Evil Dead: The Game (2021) is coming, and I’ve got the details about the gameplay you can expect from the world premiere of the Official Gameplay Trailer that dropped during Summer Game Fest on June 10th.
The game features Bruce Campbell as the voice of Ash Williams, but players can enjoy a multiplayer experience, as one of his companions from across the Evil Dead universe. Choose to play as Ash’s little sister, Cheryl Williams, or Scotty, Lord Arthur, or Pablo Simon Bolivar, or Kelly Maxwell. Players have the option to fight for the forces of good or evil, by taking control of a Kandarian Demon to hunt Ash and his friends while possessing Deadites, the environment, and other survivors. Characters in the game will be recognizable from The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), Army of Darkness (1993), and Ash vs. Evil Dead (2015). A fourth sequel, Evil Dead Rise did begin filming in June 2021 with Lee Cronin directing, but there’s no word yet on when that title is set to release, or if it will be incorporated into the game.
