Well known for writing the children’s book series Goosebumps (1992-Present), author R.L. Stine is bringing a new horror television trilogy to Netflix. These stories were inspired by R.L. Stine’s teen series Fear Street, which was first written in 1989, and is still being made to this day. Directed by Leigh Janiak, Fear Street will be released with three different stories.
Fear Street Part 1: 1994 will be released on July 2nd. The first R. L. Stine story will be about a group of friends experiencing an evil, which is responsible for a strand of murders in their town over the past couple of years.
Fear Street Part 2: 1978 release date will be July 9th. Part 2 features a teenager being possessed by an entity that is eager to kill his fellow campers at “Camp Nightwing.
And, being released on July 16th is Fear Street Part 3: 1666. The final saga by R. L. Stine will reveal a curse, and its origins, that will change the town of Shadyside forever.
Cast members include Sadie Sink from Stranger Things (2016-Present), Benjamin Flores Jr. from Game Shakers (2015-2019), Olivia Welch from Panic (2021), and many more talented actors.
Will Netflix Fulfill its Promise to the Original Books by R. L. Stine?
“Director Leigh Janiak created these worlds and these characters that you really fall in love with,” Lisa Nishimura, Netflix’s vice president of independent films, told the New York Times. “So, the ability to, in a week, come with the next film that continues the story, gives audiences a wonderful kind of interlocking of narratives that they will want to stay inside of and be deeply engaged with.”
This isn’t the first time that there’s been an attempt to modify the Fear Street series. In 1998, ABC aired a pilot for a series called Ghosts Of Fear Street, but the show wasn’t picked up.
When I watched the trailer, I knew this was a must-see. I grew up reading R.L. Stine’s novels, and I still do to this day. When the announcement was released that Netflix was airing a Fear Street movie series, I was cheering with joy and excitement. This is a new horror I am ready to sink my teeth into!
