The New Year Brings More Frights
Beginning a new year is no small feat. The suspense of what comes next, those half-baked resolutions, and that ever prickling fear that this is just the calm before the storm. You can hear the whispers already – grim, ghastly, and gruesome, phrases you came to love in 2021 for the many horror novels you read and movies you saw that still keep you up at night. Good news, 2022 will be worse.
You may be shocked by their titles, but this is a list of those bone chilling heart racing novels you can expect in the early months of 2022.
Where the Drowned Girls Go
According to Booklist “Where the Drowned Girls Go highlights the horror of a world that requires you to deny what you know to be true because it doesn’t quite fit, and it is a fantastic and tension-filled addition to the Wayward Children series.” The Tordotcom published 160 paged novel by Seanan Mcguire was released on 4th January and is one of the first published horror novels in 2022. Seanan McGuire is a multiple award-winning apocalyptic author with many published novels. Horror readers everywhere can’t wait to stay up all night reading Where the Drowned Girls Go this January.
To be published by Seven Stories Press on February 8th 2022, The Night is written by Venezuelan author Rodrigo Blanco Calderón. Real and fictional characters, most of which are writers, exchange the role of narrator in this novel, presenting readers with the edge-of-your-seat suspense from all the different angles. Trivial words will become the portal for darkness and escaping into the night will not save you.
The Book of Living Secrets
This novel, by New York Times bestselling author Madeleine Roux, follows two girls who transport themselves into the world of their favorite book only to encounter a sinister alternative reality. Things are never what they seem; the smiling hovering shadow that lurks behind them could be something else and closing your eyes, even for a second, could be your final mistake.
To be released on March 1st, 2022, this paranormal occult scenario requires these girls to rewrite the contents of the story from within the book, if they hope to escape and return back to the world they left behind.
The Order by Mark Barber
When two Holy Order knights return from a failed crusade, they are dragged into a new war against an even deadlier foe – An unholy evil from Arland’s dark past. These knights must overcome the politics of divided nations and face death itself on battlefields just to save the world.
This horror novel reveals the monstrosities in sister rivalry and takes us through 325 pages of paranormal action and gruesome suspense. To be published by Zmok Books and distributed by Simon and Schuster in April this year, it’s the perfect novel to wait for. Swords slashing and spell casting, crisscrossing between both Horace Walpole’s Castle of Otranto and George R. Martin’s Game of Thrones vibes, The Order will become the classic horror novel of 2022.
