A New Series Coming From The Master of Horror!
Stephen King is the master of horror, a writing machine that just won’t quit. Last year saw the release of a new tale titled Later, which follows literary agent Tia. She’s a single mother raising her son Jamie, who has a unique ability to talk to the deceased. When her fan-favorite author client passes away, their financial stability is put at risk, who was close to turning in his latest work of fiction. Without it, Tia’s business faces collapse.
In a last-ditch effort, she uses her son’s ability to reach out to her client to learn how to finish his novel and Tia manages to save her business just in time. Unfortunately, positive outcomes bring negative ones as well. Tia’s police detective girlfriend learns of Jamie’s ability and pushes him to help solve murder cases. This service is not so good for Jamie, however, as his work will lead him down a dark path mingling with the dead, which are better left alone.
This pulse-pounding tale will soon jump from the pages to the small screen as Deadline has reported Later will soon be adapted into a new series from Blumhouse starring Lucy Liu (Kill Bill, Elementary). King’s name in film almost seems as synonymous as it is on the pages these days, with dozens of his works made and remade for viewing for over the past forty years.
King is currently working with Jason Blum to adapt another short story titled Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. The two storytellers have always had a deep respect for one another’s work. Now they finally get to collaborate. King expressed his enthusiasm for the two projects, saying, “I’ve wanted to work with Jason Blum for years, and now we have TWO projects together. Go, me!” Blum echoed the author’s enthusiasm with sentiment of his own, citing that he had wanted to work with King since before he was born.
Series creator Raelle Tucker will write the pilot for Later. Tucker is no stranger to crafting spine-tingling and bone-chilling stories on the creative end. Her previous work includes writing for the popular HBO series True Blood, for which her work was recognized with an Emmy nomination. She has also worked on other series such as Netflix’s Jessica Jones and The CW’s Supernatural. There is currently no release date for the series premiere, but more information on the series is expected to be released as time goes by.
