Action star Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy, Captain America: Civil War) will be returning to the big screen somewhere down the road as he has signed on to lead an all-new action-horror film titled Year 2. The new film will see Grillo star as a scientist working to find a cure for a worldwide werewolf pandemic. Grillo has become something of a big name with his appearances in big-budget films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Purge franchise. It’s not often that he gets to play starring roles, so this film is likely to be quite the treat for both action and horror fans.
Year 2 takes place a year after a supermoon activates a latent lycanthropy gene that turns people into snarling beasts the moment they step foot into the moonlight. The horrific event resulted in a death toll of almost one billion people worldwide. When the supermoon returns a year after humanity’s darkest day, Marshall (Grillo) must scramble to find a cure before more lives are lost. However, when his sister-in-law and niece are under siege by wolves at their heavily fortified home, Marshall will be forced to choose between saving the world and saving his family.
Year 2 will start filming sometime this month in Puerto Rico. Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion, Escape Plan 2: Hades) will serve as director, with the script being penned by Matthew Kennedy (Inheritance). So far, the only other cast member known to be cast is Katrina Law (Spartacus) as Dr. Amy Chen, per IMDB. The design for the werewolves will be overseen by Academy Award-winning special effects artist Alec Gillis (Alien vs. Predator, The Predator).
Frank Grillo may be best known for his role as Brock Rumlow (AKA Crossbones) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although his character was killed by Wanda Maximoff in Captain America: Civil War, Grillo recently reprised his role for the Disney+ animated series What If? His other more notable role was as Sergeant Leo Barnes in The Purge franchise, where he appeared in two films (The Purge: Anarchy, and The Purge: Election Year). Outside of popular franchise films, he can be seen in The Grey, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, and Boss Level.
