Aquatic Summer Fun!

10. Triangle (2009)
Five friends set sail and their yacht is overturned by a strange and sudden storm. A mysterious ship arrives to rescue them and what happens next cannot be explained. Fantastic psychological horror, I recommend going in completely blind. Watch this if you like psychological horror that makes you think. I also recommend rewatches and make sure you pay attention! Available for streaming on Pluto and Tubi.
9. The Boat (2018)
A lone fisherman encounters a seemingly abandoned yacht in an eerie fog bank. Whilst trying to do the right thing the most inexplicable and terrifying nightmare begins. Very unique and well done story that is a lot deeper than first appears. Go in blind, the less you know before the better. There are some very cool reveals and twists. This is a film with no dialogue and only one main actor who does a great job of carrying the entire movie. Watch this if you like slow burn mystery horror. Available for streaming on Tubi and Amazon Prime.
8. 47 Meters Down (2017) & 47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019)
Two sisters vacationing in Mexico are trapped in a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean. With less than an hour of oxygen left and great white sharks circling nearby, they must fight to survive. Available for streaming on Hulu, this is a very creative idea for a shark movie with a lot of tension. Two sisters diving in a ruined underwater city quickly learn they’ve entered the territory of the deadliest shark species in the claustrophobic labyrinth of submerged caves. Two plain fun, modern shark movies. I really hope to see more from this franchise one day. Watch these if you like high tension shark movies. Available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
7. Crawl (2019)
A young woman, while attempting to save her father during a category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped in a flooding house and must fight for her life against alligators. Very good creature feature with a fresh take and good story that is well told. The main character has a very interesting story and carries the whole movie. I would love to see a sequel to this one day. Watch this if you like survival horror with people trapped in one place or alligators. Available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
6. Open Water (2003) & Open Water 2: Adrift (2006)
Based on the true story of two scuba divers accidentally stranded in shark infested waters after their tour boat has left. This is scary because it actually happened. What if you were stranded after your boat left? The story sucks you in and is very compelling. Available for streaming on Amazon Prime. When a group of friends fail to lower the ladder of their boat, they find themselves stranded in the surrounding waters and struggle to survive. This movie is also utterly terrifying because this could actually happen. The characters lack some common sense, but it is still very enjoyable trapped survival horror. Watch these if you want to see two good shark survival horror movies with interesting stories. Available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
5. The Reef (2010)
A great white shark hunts the crew of a capsized sailboat along the Great Barrier Reef. This is unique because this story takes place in Australia and is a very good 2010s shark movie. Watch this if you like 2010s survival horror films. Available for streaming on Tubi and Amazon Prime.
4. The Bay (2012)
Chaos breaks out in a small Maryland town after an ecological disaster occurs. Fantastic and very well done ecological and topical found footage film. This is good for rewatches, because you are likely to pick up on repeat viewings. Watch this if you like found footage, ecological movies, or stories where all the plot lines cross. Available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
3. The Beach House (2019)
A romantic getaway for two troubled college sweethearts turns into a struggle for survival when unexpected guests – and the surrounding environment – exhibit signs of a mysterious infection. Interesting concept executed fairly well. Good ecological survival with intense body horror. Watch this if you like ecological movies, survival horror, or beach houses. Available for streaming on Shudder.
2. Sweetheart (2019)
Jenn has washed ashore a small tropical island and it doesn’t take her long to realize she’s completely alone. She must spend her days not only surviving the elements, but must also fend off the malevolent force that comes out each night. The main character is compelling and carries the movie. This was a very good and unexpected creature feature. However, the ending falls a bit flat. There is no dialogue in the first third that does a great job of setting up everything. Watch this if you like movies that take place in one location, survival horror, or creature features. Available for streaming on Netflix.
1. Sea Fever (2019)
The crew of a West of Ireland trawler, marooned at sea, struggle for their lives against a growing parasite in their water supply. Good claustrophobic, survival, body horror. Watch this if you like movies set in one place, survival horror, or movies set on ships. Available for streaming on Hulu.
