On December 14th, 2022, director, actor, and writer Cat Hostick shared some time with Dead Talk Live. In a 22-minute expose, she talked shop most honestly and earnestly. Through a detailed discussion and an honest assessment of her work Hostick broke down the cultivation of her craft.
Easing Into the Making of An Artist
Both Hostick and host John Vizaniaris eased into the conversation by looking back at her origins. Hostick wasted no time recalling her earlier passions leading her to the arts, specifically acting and directing. When asked where her true love lies, like a lover torn between two passions, she admittedly expressed her love for acting (her first love) and directing. From there, it was a session of exploration, a dive into her body of work, approach, and collaborative partnerships with Eli Roth and other industry peers.
A Conversation With Heart
The heart of the conversation rested on her recent projects leaning heavily on her two directorial credits on the paranormal series Urban Legend. Hostick talked about her emotional approach, instances of inspiration, collaborative efforts to bring forth a work, and the depths reached in specific projects. The further the exploration, the clearer it became that while some aspire for such, others are born for it. In a moment of introspection, she was asked to explore the necessity of belief in the paranormal in producing a robust horror project. Her response was pure excellence. Careful not to diminish the process of others, she speaks from her personal experience alone. “I know fear so well. And I’m so addicted to it. I feel I can express it through this medium well.” While some may see this as a run-of-the-mill statement and perhaps one to gloss over, it is worth its weight in gold.
