First Project in New Deal to be "Mighty Nein" Animated Series Based on Critical Role's Second Campaign

On January 25th, 2023 the announcement was made that an animated series based around Critical Role’s second campaign Mighty Nein is coming. Production is planning to start soon. While release dates are yet to come, the teaser trailer is already getting fans excited.

From Stranger Things to the Dungeons and Dragons movie coming out in 2023, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, it’s no surprise D&D continues to play a pivotal role in the entertainment industry now more than ever. Some gravitate towards its nostalgia while others are just beginning to take an interest.

Critical Role in a Nutshell

Many Dungeons and Dragons fans have heard of or watched Critical Role, which started as nothing more than a group of voice actors coming together to play D&D and has expanded so much since. Their group has not only formed into a successful company but their stories are being told in a variety of formats, from podcasts to comic books, truly becoming a part of the Dungeons and Dragons fanbase. The group includes popular dungeon master Matthew Mercer along with a talented cast and crew behind the scenes.They have done three campaigns so far. However the most beloved seems to be the Mighty Nein.

Critical Role & Amazon

While their first animated show became a reality due to an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign. That first show, The Legend of Vox Machina, has become a success. This new deal with Amazon opens a large realm of possibility for the nerd group turned multi-media company. The upcoming show is only the first project to be announced. The large Critical Role fanbase is excited to see what else may come from this TV and film deal.

According to an interview with Forbes, Vernon Sanders, head of TV global at Amazon Studios said, “With the success of our animated series The Legend of Vox Machina, we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Critical Role and expanding its universe with ‘Mighty Nein.’”

How & Where to Watch

The Mighty Nein series beloved by Critical Role fans is set to come to Prime Video sometime in the future. The Critical Role animated show, The Legend of Vox Machina, is based on their first campaign and has two seasons ready to watch on Amazon Prime, with a third season currently in production. The success of The Legend of Vox Machina bodes very well for any future projects.
