The Netflix series based on two series of books Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, written by Leigh Bardugo, became popular after the release of season one on April 23rd, 2021. The first season of Shadow and Bone consists of eight episodes, as will the second recently renewed season. Showrunner Eric Heisserer and Dagan Frikli, who is the series’ executive producer and writer, will assist with the upcoming new season. Writer Lee Bardugo was inspired by Tsarist Russia and created the Grishavers universe. Grisha are people endowed with abilities; they can control the air, calm people, or stop a person’s heart. In season one, the main character is an orphan girl named Alina who works as a cartographer in the second army, and her friend Mal, who is a tracker. They must cross the Shadow Fold, a large area of darkness inhabited by monsters called Volcras. Crossing the Shadow Fold is dangerous because flying creatures live there that are not subject to the Grisha and they can kill a person quickly, but there is a legend that only a Sun Summoner can destroy the Shadow Fold. When they crossed the Canyon, one of the Volcra attacked Mal and Alina tried to save him and suddenly a bright light appeared from her. After what happens, Alina is taken to a meeting with the Darkling who is the leader of the Grisha with great power and he conducts a test that reveals that Alina is a Sun Summoner.

New & Returning Cast

The entire main cast of Shadow and Bone will return in the new season. These involve Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in Soho) as Alina known as the Sun Caller, Archie Renaux (Catherine Called Birdy) playing Mal Oretsev, Ben Barnes (Seventh Son) as General Kirigan, better known as Darkling. In addition, the main cast of Crows will return, accompanied by Freddy Carter (Free Rein) playing the main leader Kaz “Dirtyhands” Brekker of the gang Dregs and the genius of the underworld, Amita Suman (Daughter) known as Inej Gafa who is a spy and a dexterous acrobat, kidnapper of the secrets, Christopher William Young (The School for Good and Evil) as Jesper Fahey sharpshooter and gang member. Also returning is Danielle Galligan (We Don’t Choose How) playing Grisha who was captured by the witch hunter or Drüskelle as they are called. Calahan Skogman (Catch) plays Drüskelle who hunts Grishes. Moreover, fans of the original books will be able to see the long-awaited introduction of new characters like Wylan, a young and kind character who is also an excellent bed runner, played by Jack Wolfe (Witcher). Another much-loved and highly anticipated character to appear in Shadow and Bone season two is the famous pirate Sturmhond, played by Paddy Gibson. He also plays a major role and appears in the book Siege and Storm, the sequel to Shadow and Bone. An additional two characters, Tolya (Lewis Tan) and Tamar (Anna Leong Brophy) will also make an appearance.
