A Veritable Smorgasbord!

We are a month into the new year, and although there is still a nip in the air, things are starting to heat up cinematically. February has a lot to offer viewers, from romance to original thrillers. It is a veritable smorgasbord. For sure, one must be careful not to overindulge to ensure they save room for what is ahead. However, it never hurts to sample a little bit of everything. So, for movie lovers, here is a list of upcoming films worth checking out. 

10. What About Love

What About Love is an hour and 45-minute drama romance directed by Klaus Menzel. Menzel is also credited as a writer alongside Douglas Day Stewart. This film brings the iconic Sharon Stone back to the big screen, as well as Andy Garcia, who play the parents of Tanner. Marielle Jaffe and Miguel Angel Munoz are cast as the young lovers Tanner and Christian. This film is quite magical. The lens follows a young amorous pair on their journey of love, a journey that inspires something in their parents. It warms places long thought cold. So, for those in the mood for a romantic piece, What About Love will be shown in select theaters on February 14th. 

9. Seriously Red

This is the story of a young lady named Red, played by Krew Boylan, who has lofty ambitions. She dreams of becoming a famous impersonator hoping to one day fill the heels of her idol, the queen of country music, Dolly Parton. Finally, Red gets her chance after losing her job. But she doesn’t have to worry. Reds got spunk, demonstrating she’ll do what it takes to live out her dream. She manages to convince (Rose Byrne), who spends time filling the blue suede shoes of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. With Elvis’s support and a booking agent (Bobby Cannavale), Red realizes her dream. She even falls for the perfect impersonating partner Kenny Rogers (Daniel Webber). However, soon her life starts to feel a bit overwhelming as if she’s living a lie. It is one thing to fill the shoes of someone else but it is a lot to handle when it feels like your own shoes do not fit. Interestingly, the screenplay is also written by Krew Boylan and falls under the direction of Gracie Otto. Simply Red is another limited release premiering on February 10th. 

8. Your Place or Mine

Your Place or Mine is another romantic comedy. This feature stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. Aline Brosh McKenna of The Devil Wears Prada is the creative power behind this film. Your Place or Mine is the tale of two friends discovering deeper feelings for each other after swapping homes. Reese, who plays Debbie, leaves California for the big city (New York). And in turn, Kutcher settles in at Debbie’s home, taking over the care of her son. This film proves that love is a sneaky thing. It’s just that sometimes it requires a little nudge. This film will begin streaming on Netflix on February 10th.

7. We Have a Ghost

This upcoming feature stars Jennifer Coolidge, David Harbour, and Anthony Mackie. This film is about a ghost named Ernest and the family that discovers his presence. Ernest is not any old ghost. He’s far from the normal variety, equating to a more than-average tale. In this movie, the discovery of Ernest (David Harbour) has a yin-yang effect on the family whose home he haunts. With the help of the ghost, the family goes viral, becoming an internet sensation. However, their newfound fame also makes them targets of a secretive government agency. This film promises to be lots of fun and full of adventure. We Have a Ghost, under the direction of Christopher Landon, will premiere on February 24th on Netflix. 

6. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

The long-anticipated childish narrative turned nightmare will soon debut. This Rhys Frake-Waterfield film is a one-of-a-kind look at childhood icons Winnie the Pooh and his friend Piglet. Unfortunately, abandonment issues turn Winnie Pooh and Piglet into beasts. Pooh is driven to madness. He’s no longer nurturing an insatiable taste for honey. He is out for blood. This horror film stars Chris Cordell as Piglet, Frederick Dallaway as Young Christopher, and Craig David Dowsett as Pooh. Pooh and Piglet will make their bloody debut on February 15th.

5. 80 for Brady

What is cuter than teenage age girls fawning over their chosen idol? Only one thing: a group of women pledging their lives to meet their football icon and crush, Tom Brady. And it is a dream that they get to fulfill. 80 for Brady is a comedy-drama starring Rita Moreno, Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sally Kirkland, Sara Gilbert, and of course, Tom Brady. Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins wrote this film for the screen, and Kyle Marvin will direct it. Reportedly this movie is inspired by a true story making it all the more enjoyable. 80 For Brady will be released in theaters on February 3rd.

4. Cocaine Bear

Cocaine Bear is a highly anticipated thriller about a massive bear, a ferocious 500lb creature. Interestingly, this bear has murder on its mind, and part of that rage is driven by cocaine. Cocaine Bear is also said to be inspired by a true story wherein a plane carrying drugs crashes. And as many may already guess, the cocaine goes missing. Guess who ingests it? This film stars Ray Liotta, Margo Martindale, Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, and Matthew Rhys. This unconventional film, written by Jimmy Warden and directed by Elizabeth Banks, will premiere on February 24th in theaters nationwide.

3. Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Channing Tatum has entertained audiences with his lusty dances as Magic Mike. Now he is back for his last dance. Magic Mike’s Last Dance will be an hour and 52 min long feature premiering February 10th. And Tatum will bring his intoxicating moves to the screen alongside Salma Hayek, Caitlin Gerard, and Nancy Carroll. If the movie is anything like the trailer, this will be one spicy inspirational flick. Steven Soderbergh (director) and Reid Carolin (Writer) will give fans of Magic Mike just what they need to heat things up before Valentine’s Day,

2. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

February is an exciting month for Marvel Fans, as February 17th marks the debut of the next installment in the Ant-Man series, Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope van Dyne), Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror), Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang), Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet van Dyne), Michael Douglas (Dr. Hank Pym), and Bill Murray (Krylar) will lead the adventure. This film is all about the exploration of the Quantum Realm and the things Ant-Man, Wasp (daughter of Hank Pym), Hank Pym (original Ant-Man), and Janet (wife of Pym and original Wasp) meet there.

1. Knock at the Cabin

Night M. Shyamalan returns to theaters with the new feature Knock at the Cabin. This new apocalyptic horror, thriller, and mystery is set to hit theaters February 3rd. Shyamalan’s latest feature is about a family who takes a trip, an excursion into the woods. While there, they learn from a group of strangers that the world’s fate is in their hands. They must choose. It is some terrifying business, but someone has to do it. And the decision they must make is something not to be taken lightly. For fans of the master of mystery and thrills Shyamalan and apocalyptic pieces, this film is for you. Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rupert Grint, Abby Quin, and Kristen Cui have all been cast to deliver the perfect chill.

February is looking spectacular with its varied selection. But no matter your taste, there is something to satiate it. So, get ready for a month of cinematic goodness!
