All You Need To Know About The Upcoming Psychological Religious Horror
Jena Malone takes on an entire Scottish convent to find out the bloody truth of her brother’s alleged suicide, in Christopher Smith’s upcoming, disturbing horror Consecration.
Supernatural, Sacrilege, Secrets
IFC Midnight and Shudder team up to distribute the film in theaters starting February 10th, with an exclusive run on Shudder beginning on March 3rd. Jena Malone stars as Grace, a devoted and determined sibling to Michael (Steffan Cennydd), who supposedly fell to his death by suicide, while working as a priest at the remote Mount Saviour Convent in Scotland. Clearly mistrusting the nun’s account of Michael’s demise, she recruits the aid of Vatican priest Father Romero, played by Danny Huston. (Succession, Yellowstone) But even Father Romero seems to have his own agenda in mind. Malone’s Grace not only picks up clues regarding Michael’s incident, but starts to uncover evidence of homicide, sacrilege, and long buried wounds from her past at the secretive convent.
A Stacked Cast
Jena Malone is known across Twitter as an indie film goddess. She’s seen most recently amongst ruthless models in Neon Demon, and plays Alice in Swallowed, and also casted perfectly as Johanna Mason in Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Malone will no doubt continue her reign in this blood soaked terror. The cast also includes Ian Pirie (The Last Duel, Halo) and Thoren Ferguson (Matriarch). As seen in the trailer, the emerald lands of Scotland are a stark backdrop to the muted black and whites inside the convent. This creates even more of a shock when the gory chaos starts to unfold.
Not Another Nun Movie
While viewers think they may have seen all of the holy terrors that nuns are capable of, in such flicks as The Nun, and Veronica, Consecration’s trailer of crimson habits, and looming shadows around every corner, shows that director Christopher Smith (Triangle, Creep) has some new unholy and supernatural acts of psychological terror up his sleeve.
Courageous movie goers can add this film to their February must watch lists, and test their resolve with the trailer below.
