Vol. 3

A Glimpse Into The Guardian’s “Last Ride” as a Team

MCU junkies everywhere have been abuzz about the latest trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which was released this past Super Bowl Sunday – and honestly, us Marvel fans may even care more about that than who won the game. There is, of course, a lot for us to unpack in the just-over-two-minute snippet that arrived on our television screens and truly… we aren’t sure whether to be excited, confused, or both. Regardless, we’ll get on with it and let you decide for yourselves.

Gamora is Back?

Longtime supporters of the Guardians and their long-running stint in the previous two phases of the MCU were understandably crushed when Thanos chucked his adopted daughter Gamora (Zoe Saldana) off of the cliffs of Vormir in exchange for the soul stone way back in Avengers: Infinity War, and thought we would never see her again until she made an appearance in Avengers: Endgame once again. And of course, it was bittersweet to watch Gamora and Peter (Chris Pratt) meet again for what seemed to be the last time.

But in typical MCU fashion, it seems that the last time is never the last time. While the trailer opens on a somber Peter Quill drowning his sorrows in booze (seemingly missing his departed love), we find out just a moment later that the Endgame version of Gamora has decided to join ranks with the Guardians, despite having no memories of their friendship (being from the past, and all).

And even though we as fans are thrilled for this reunion, we do have questions about how the TVA would fare with Gamora traveling forward in time, but we suppose that brings us to our next point.

Vol. 3

Kang the Conqueror

Another intriguing return of a villain seems to be in store for us in this Guardians film, with Kang the Conqueror seemingly at the center of this latest trailer. For those of us who kept up with the hit Loki series released on Disney+, it is noted that Kang the Conqueror is the new ruler of the TVA since his encounter with the Lokis, as well as one of the arch nemesis of the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards.

It can be assumed that Gamora’s appearance plays into Kang’s role in the movie, if not alluding to the impending introduction of the Fantastic Four in universe, but his presence leaves something to be seen – perhaps tying into the newly released Ant-Man: Quantumania?

The Last Ride

Get the tears ready! In the trailer, Peter Quill seemingly turns to face his friends and asks them if they’re “ready for one last ride”, and dubbing them each other’s chosen family. This would indicate that it’s the end of the road at the MCU for this otherworldly gaggle of heroes, but here’s hoping that they may appear in any upcoming Avengers flicks that we don’t yet know about.

Regardless, we’ll be racing you all to the theater to witness the Guardians “last ride” on May 5th, 2023.
