The Outwaters is Chasing Moviegoers Out of Theaters!

This Horror Film is Proving Too Much For Some Audiences

The Outwaters is the highly anticipated found footage horror from Bloody Disgusting and SCREAMBOX which just recently hit theaters. Fans have been waiting for this one for a while, but reactions may be divisive. Critics seem to love it, giving it a high enough score for the film to be “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans are having mixed reactions, though. The film isn’t for everyone, but for those who enjoyed it, some are having pretty strong reactions.

The Robbie Banfitch movie follows a group of four friends as they set out to the middle of a desert to film a music video. It sounds simple, right? Things are pretty uneventful, at first but then weird things start to happen. Strange sounds are heard, the ground vibrates, and some of the friends start exhibiting weird animal behavior. What then follows is a strange and horrific trip that has had viewers having similar reactions to Terrifier 2.

The Outwaters is being described as one of the most frantic and abstract horror movies ever made, and many are having a hard time considering the film’s chaotic nature. But among those who have seen it, some are having a difficult time making it to the end. There are those who are vomiting in the theater while some are storming out completely. In one case, a person’s heart was pounding so hard that it set off their Apple watch.

Other cases have described intense anxiety from the second half’s shrill darkness, as well as feelings of sickness and nausea. Horror fans will remember that not too long ago, Terrifier 2 premiered in theaters and was said to be so intense that ambulances were called. If The Outwaters is having similar effects, then perhaps this will be one that fans should see while they can.

The film stars director Robbie Banfitch himself as Robbie Zagorac. He is joined by Angela Basolis as Ange Bocuzzi, Scott Schamell as Scott Zagorac, Michelle May as Michelle August, Leslie Ann Banfitch as Leslie Zagorac, and Aro Caitlin as Aro Aguilar. The movie premiered in select theaters today on February 12th, 2023. It’s not known how long it will remain in theaters as most movies seem to move to streaming fast these days. When it does, be sure to see The Outwaters at home.
