Creed III

Face Your Past

By Christine Josey

In the film Creed III, the character Adonis Creed is thriving in his career and family life when childhood friend and former boxing prodigy Damian Anderson resurfaces after serving time in prison, and he’s eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between the friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian.

The following cast returns for this phenomenal film. Actor/producer and now director Michael B. Jordan was born on February 9, 1987, in Santa Ana, California, and was raised in Newark, New Jersey. He is the son of Donna and Michael A. Jordan. The actor has starred in three of the most critically acclaimed television dramas of the past decade. Jordan played in HBO’s dramatic hit series The Wire (2002), starred as a quarterback on Friday Night Lights (2006), and played a recovering alcoholic on NBC’s Parenthood (2010).

Michael’s first major leading film role came when he starred as Oscar Grant in Fruitvale Station (2013). The film’s cast included actress/producer/director Octavia Spencer and actress/producer Melonie Diaz and was produced by Forest Whitaker. The film premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for U.S. Dramatic Film.

Creed III

Creed III is the third film in the Creed trilogy, the first being Creed, a 2015 American sports drama directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Aaron Covington and featured Sylvester Stalone as the retired champ Rocky Balboa. The movie was released that Thanksgiving Day. All Def Movie Award-winning Actor Jordan returned in his leading role in Creed II on November 2018, where he faced the son of Rocky’s old nemesis Ivan Drago. Creed III will be the first film with actor Michael B. Jordan as a director as he returns for what may be his toughest fight yet.

Other returning cast members of this major production include actress/producer/writer Tessa Thompson (The Listener, Passing) as Adonis’s wife Bianca Taylor, a singer/songwriter in the film. Adonis and Bianca are married in the film and have a baby girl named Amara.

Actress Phylicia Rashad, critically known for her television series role as Clair Huxtable in The Cosby Show, reprises her role as character Mary Anne Creed, Adonis’s mother. Actor/producer Jonathan Majors (Devotion) plays the character Damian Anderson, a former boxing prodigy and childhood friend to Adonis. And in a surprising return, actor Florian Munteanu reprises his role from Creed II as Viktor Drago, Ivan Drago’s son. Creed III will also feature professional boxer Canelo Alvarez as himself. Wood Harris, better known as ‘Wood (Space Jam-A New Legacy), reprises his role as the character Tony ‘Little Duke’ Burton. And finally, Tony Bellew will play Anthony Bellew.

Creed III will release nationwide in theaters tomorrow. As of now, there is nothing confirmed on the film being released on any streaming platform.
