Steven Yeun & Ali Wong Lead A24’s Newest Series Coming to Netflix
Netflix has officially given a release date and the official first look photos for their new series Beef, a dark comedy starring Steven Yeun (Minari, Nope) and Ali Wong (Always Be My Maybe, Baby Cobra). The 10 episode season is centered around a road rage incident between Danny (Yeun), who is a struggling contractor with a chip on his shoulder, and Amy Lau (Wong), a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life. Their growing feud after their first encounter starts to bleed into their personal lives and threaten their relationships. The series has been described as “deeply moving” and “darkly comedic”, which falls under the type of content A24 usually produces.
What We Know So Far
Not much is known yet about this project other than what Netflix has released, adding to the allure and mystery of A24’s newest project. Following the success of Euphoria, A24 has become more mainstream than before, known for their twisted and intense concepts played out through film. More popularly known for their movies, Beef is a breath of fresh air in A24’s portfolio.
Wong, along with starring in it, is an executive producer for the show, along with Yeun through his company Universal Remote. Rounding out the rest of the cast is Joseph Lee (Searching), Young Mazino, David Choe, Patti Yasutake (Star Trek franchise), Maria Bello (A History of Violence), Ashley Park (Emily In Paris), Justin H. Min (After Yang), Mia Serafino (Crowded), and Remy Holt (1923). The show was created from the mind of Lee Sung Jin (Dave, Silicon Valley), and he is also one of the directors, along with Jake Schreier and HIKARI.
Yeun was just recently spotted in Jordan Peele’s latest horror thriller, Nope, which garnered critical acclaim, and he is also the voice of the titular character in the animated superhero series Invincible, the second season teased to be arriving sometime this year. Wong herself has also been busy adding more credits to her name, having lent her voice for the Big Mouth spinoff, Human Resources, and tucking another Netflix comedy special, Don Wong, under her belt.
Beef will be released on April 6th, 2023 and available to stream globally on Netflix.
