From executive producer Jason Bateman, Outlast is a new survival reality show coming to Netflix on March 10th. It is a raw survival competition series where 16 lone wolves must outlast each other in the Alaskan wilderness in an attempt to win one million dollars. There is only one rule in this cut throat game: they must be a part of a team to win. In a time with shows that have become so well known such as The Amazing Race, Alone, Survivor, Naked and Afraid, Man VS Wild, I Shouldn’t be Alive, and more in that category, it is no surprise that Netflix will house a team based survival reality show as well.
The Alaskan wilderness is unforgiving and very dangerous. It will be interesting to see how the contestants either work together or don’t and the lengths they will go to in order to survive. Though the Alaskan wilderness has been explored before, Outlast is a unique concept standing out from other survival reality shows with the teamwork aspect in contrast to the focus on surviving alone that other survival shows tend to feature.
The contestants are Amber Asay, Andrea Hilderbrand, Angie Esparza, Brian Kahrs, Corey Johnson, Dawn Nelson, Javier Colon, Jill Ashock, Joel Hungate,
Jordan Williams, Justin Court, Lee Ettinger, Nick Radner, Paul Preece, Seth Lueker, and Timothy Spears. It is always interesting to meet the candidates, hear their stories, and see their survival skills in action. It will be refreshing to see them having to work together rather than having to survive alone like the other shows in the genre. 16 also seems to be a high number featuring a lot of contestants wanting to win. One also wonders what the format of the show will be, the types of challenges featured, how they must work together, and any consequences introduced in the competition.
Be sure to catch Outlast on Netflix on March 10th, 2023 and you can read more here.
