Confirmed this morning by Deadline, after the scoop broke from news outlet Giant Freakin Robot, Millennium Films has cast the next Hellboy. Jack Kesy, best known for his work in Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain, TNT’s Claws, and David Leitch’s Deadpool 2, has joined the cast of the upcoming reboot in the lead role. The film, based on the three-issue comic arc from 2008, is a period piece set in the 1950’s. The story, and film, are smaller in scale and stakes than the previous efforts from directors Guillermo del Toro and Neil Marshall.
The synopsis of the film states, “Hellboy is stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia with a rookie BPRD agent. There they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.”
The actor, standing an impressive 6’ 2” is the latest actor to dawn the shaved horns of the world’s greatest occult detective. Kesy is a relatively unknown actor whose resume includes a number of impressive supporting roles. Here he will play the titular half-demon half-human hero who is an agent for the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, who slings around the massive stone right hand of doom.
Speaking about the casting, Jonathan Yunger, co-president of Millennium Films said “Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost,”
As of now Hellboy: The Crooked Man hasn’t added any additional cast, but details are expected soon as the film is slated to film in Bulgaria starting in April. The film will be directed by Brian Taylor from a script from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Author Christopher Golden, based on the comic from Mignola and artist Richard Corben.
As of now no release date is scheduled for the film. The film looks to have been picked up by German distributor Telepool.
