Upcoming Star Wars Projects

There Is a Lot on the Star Wars Horizon

Star Wars is an extremely expansive and prolific franchise that has continued for decades. There is a large universe with many stories to tell and characters to explore. There are a lot of untold stories and expansions on the horizon in the universe. Here are some upcoming Stars Wars movies and other film projects coming out this year, next year, and beyond.

10. The Acolyte

Upcoming Star Wars ProjectsSlated for 2024, The Acolyte is described as a Star Wars series that takes viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. The story is set between the High Republic and the beginning of the prequels. This will be the furthest that live-action Star Wars has gone back in the timeline. This will be told from the perspective of the villains where they are the underdogs. The series is said to be critical of the Jedi. In the Star Wars universe, the term “acolyte” refers to a disciple of the dark side of the force. The story takes place about a century before the events of The Phantom Menace, during a time when the Sith were still in hiding, getting ready to make their move to take over the galaxy. Aside from canon novels, the High Republic is an era totally unexplored in any live-action content.

9. Visions Volume 2

Upcoming Star Wars ProjectsVisions is a Star Wars anthology series that saw some of the world’s best anime creators bring their talent to the universe. Season two premieres on May 4th. There will be stories from the anthology told, and it will feature unique animation. The studios include this season are El Guiri, Cartoon Saloon, Punkrobot, Aardman, Studio Mir, Studio La Cachette, 88 Pictures, D’Art Shtaijo with Lucasfilm and Triggerfish. These are all completely new studios different from season one — a must watch if you are a Star Wars and animation fan.

8.  James Mangold’s Untitled Movie That Will Go Back to the Dawn of the Jedi

Upcoming Star Wars Projects

James Mangold, the director of Logan and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, is creating a film that will “go back to the dawn of the Jedi.” We have not seen a lot of early timeline events in live-action content. There are a lot of possible Jedi and other canon storylines that could make appearances as well; we could even see the very first Sith and Jedi and how they came to be.

7. Lando

Upcoming Star Wars ProjectsRelease date unknown, Lando is an upcoming Disney+ series that will focus on the character of Lando Calrissian. The series is being developed by Justin Simien, who is known for creating the Netflix series Dear White People. At this time, there are no details about the plot or cast of the series, but it is expected to explore more of Lando’s backstory and adventures. Donald Glover is likely to return to the role and has stated that he is excited for the project. We could see more young Han Solo and possibly an expansion of that Han Solo movie.

6. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Untitled Project

Upcoming Star Wars ProjectsSharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film will be set after the events of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, and feature Daisy Ridley back as Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order. We have not seen Rey in a while, so it will be interesting to see what she has been up to. It also brings up the question of what a new Jedi Order could look like after the events of the previous trilogy and how those events affected Rey.

5. Andor Season 2

Upcoming Star Wars ProjectsComing in 2024, there are a lot of questions to be answered after season one. Does Luthen trust Cassian? What happens to Luthen before Rogue One? Did the Ferrix rebels really escape? Where is K-250? What happened to Kino Loy? Who else is aware of the Death Star? What happened to Andor’s sister? Andor telling the story of the rebellion and being a prequel to Rogue One puts it in a place to tell very specific, unique stories from that part of the timeline. We know how Cassian’s story plays out, but not how he got there. We will likely learn more about Andor and Cassian.

4. Young Jedi Adventures

Upcoming Star Wars ProjectsComing on May 4th, Young Jedi Adventures tells the story of Younglings as they go on adventures in the Star Wars universe and start their journeys to become Jedi Knights. We could see more Jedi and possibly Sith in their early years and more detailed training. However, it is unclear when this story takes place. This is an angle of a story that hasn’t really explored in live action in the early years and adventures of the Jedi and how they become Jedi Knights.

3. Ahsoka

AhsokaComing in 2023, After the fall of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. As a fan-favorite and the demand of a live-action series enhancing, and seeing a bit of her in The Mandalorian, this is a highly anticipated series that is likely to explore more of Ahsoka’s Story and life. We saw her in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian, but this is the first time we are seeing her on her own adventure in live action.

2. Skeleton Crew

Upcoming Star Wars ProjectsCreated by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, this series will follow a group of kids, each about 10 years old, who get lost in the Star Wars universe. It is unknown who the kids are, if they’re Jedi, mandalorians, or anything else. The story will reportedly take place in the same time frame as The Mandalorian and its interconnected spin-offs after the events of Return of the JediSkeleton Crew tells a coming-of-age story.

1.  Untitled Project: Dave Filoni’s Focus on the New Republic, Closing out other Disney+ series.

Star WarsDave Filoni’s film will explore a more familiar era and “focus on the New Republic.” Filoni is known for his work on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, writer on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. He is also the creator and executive producer on Ahsoka. It is clear that many different plot lines and characters will come together.
