Beetlejuice 2 Set for 2024 Theatrical Release

Beetlejuice 2

Should The Dead Have Been Left to Rest? Or Will The Sequel Be Juicier Than Ever

Beetlejuice, the iconic 1988 Tim Burton film, has lived many lives. First as a macabre classic, then as a hit musical, and now a sequel to the original movie is in the works. At this time, not much else is known about the film other than its September 2024 release date.

Cast Announcements

It can be confirmed that original stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are reprising their roles. In an exciting addition Jenna Ortega, horror’s latest breakout star, is joining as Lydia’s (Winona Ryder) daughter. Justin Theroux is also joining in an unannounced part. However, there is no news on whether Catherine O’Hara or anyone else from the original cast will return for the sequel.

The Creepily Creative Team Involved

Tim Burton is, of course, coming back in a significant creative role. However, he’s bringing along the writers of Wednesday. Here’s hoping we can rest easy knowing Ms. Ortega is there to run an interception on any cringy jokes. Filming is set to begin today, May 10th, 2023, in London. However, with the recent writer’s strike, how things will progress is unclear.

Scary Thoughts

A nervous excitement permeated through social media platforms following the announcement. If the filmmakers meet fan expectations, this could be one of the biggest releases in recent years, but that’s a big “if.” The original film has somehow never lost an ounce of momentum. With the recent Broadway adaptation revitalizing the story for newer audiences, a large opening box-office weekend can be expected. However, with high expectations, this film is uniquely positioned to flop– hard.

Only time will tell if this is another money grab, but ghoulish fingers are crossed for the best. Who knows, maybe Beetlejuice will finally go to Hawaii (doubtful, but it’d be fun to see the film nod to the long-rumored potential follow-up). In any event, expect to see a lot of Beetlejuice costumes at your 2024 Halloween parties.
