Meg 2 Trailer: Everything We Know

Meg 2

More Monsters Down In The Trench

The trailer for The Meg 2: The Trench has dropped, showing off what’s next for this action-packed monster thriller. Jason Statham returns to dive down and hunt down these monstrous sharks. This film promises more sharks, monsters, and crazy action against these threats from the deep sea.

Beasts From the Past

The trailer opens with a blast from the past, showcasing a prehistoric food chain on a beachside. Smaller lizards eat insects before being eaten by bigger ones. A T-Rex catches the bigger lizards before being bitten by a monstrous megalodon and dragged into the sea. This is a strong showcase of the monster’s size and appetite. The scene also hints at more of the possible prehistoric monsters that the protagonists will have to fight against, aquatic creatures that have lived for millions of years and remain the top predators.

From there, the trailer showcases more of the film’s plot. Four years after the events of the first film, more activity came from the depths where the meg from the first film was encountered. A pitch-black ecosystem filled with prehistoric life and giant sea monsters. An expedition set to explore down there brings back Jason Statham’s character, Jonas Taylor, to join in a dive down below. Scenes are shown of the depths of the Trench, a dark underwater landscape filled with giant creatures. The group is given strong divers suits, but even those are not enough to combat the monsters down there. A thrilling scene shows the explorers being taken out by a giant octopus before the biggest meg so far chases them back to their station. What’s shown here is that the megs are not the only threat this time around. More prehistoric monsters from the Trench are released and start attacking people—smaller salamander-like creatures, giant octopus monsters, and now, an entire pack of megalodons.

Meg 2

More Havoc

The trailer also shows the chaos and action that comes with these monster attacks, which take place on an island beach resort filled with tourists swimming in these giant shark-infested waters. The trailer shows a pack of three megs terrorizing and hunting these tourists, eating several people, and breaking through docks with just their fins. The havoc in the film is not caused by the Meg alone. The trailer shows more monsters that attack the resort. Small lizards getting on land, and a giant tentacle bringing down a helicopter.

The crew, this time around, brings a prominent new face. Jing Wu plays an undisclosed role, but the trailer shows him in many scenes and promotes him as a big star in the film. He’s fighting back one of the lizards with a shovel, managing the station that monitors the trench, and jumping out of a helicopter. Another returning face to the film series is Shuya Sophia Cai, playing Meiying. She was a child in the last film but is now returning to the series for a more involved role in the movie, as she is shown as being a part of the main expedition down to the trench. Other returning cast members include Cliff Curtis and Page Kennedy, who reprise their roles.

A Little Extra Nastiness

The Meg 2 trailer also promises more crazy action and fun kills. The mouths of these megs are so big as to swallow people whole in a single bite without warning. They are breaking through the reinforced glass and tearing through structures. In the trailer’s final scene, Jason Statham attacks one of these megs by riding a jet ski over a large wave holding harpoons to pierce into these giant sharks.

This film is shaping up to be a  ridiculously fun action movie with thrilling monster scenes that are sure to be enjoyable. A film chock full of scenes with monsters terrorizing the deep ocean depths and crazy action maneuvers to fight them off. More monsters, more sharks, and many more kills. The Meg 2: The Trench comes out in theaters on August 4th, 2023.
