A ballerina assassin? We’re in! The always thrilling and inventive John Wick films leave us in suspense with an exciting new offshoot of the series; Ballerina spinning into theaters in 2024.

What Is Known So Far 

Lionsgate Films will be shooting and releasing the much buzzed about John Wick spinoff known as Ballerina. The new film will be directed by Len Wiseman and written by English actress and writer Emerald Fennell along with Shay Hatten, who also penned John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Hatten has said that the movie will give fans another perspective on John Wick’s origins, especially regarding his earliest training experiences, and how these all shaped him to become the character he is known as today. Principal photography was initially scheduled to commence in summer 2022. Filming officially began on November 7, 2022, in Prague. Supplementary scenes were also filmed around Moravia. Principal photography finished on February 5, 2023.

Storyline & Casting

This storyline revolves around a ballerina trained assassin avenging the loss of her loved ones with Ana de Armas slated to play the ballerina assassin Rooney. There is no official word yet of who the professional dancer is, who will be collaborating with Armas in the film. Being one of the most rigorous sports that exists, it is no surprise that ballet would be a chosen background for this exciting new spin-off of the John Wick Series. There hasn’t been much exposure in regards to ballet in film since the occult and much-talked-about movie Black Swan in 2010.
