Anticipating New Netflix Comedy The Out-Laws

Netflix The Out-Laws

Meeting the Parents Can Be a Challenge

With summer fast approaching, popular streaming services are beginning to give sneak peeks of their upcoming releases. Netflix, in particular, just dropped their trailer for the upcoming film The Out-Laws, a comedy-action film set to come out in July.

The Plot Explores Eye-Opening Surprises for the In-Laws

Owen Browning (Adam DeVine) is a bank manager soon to be married to the love of his life, Parker McDermott (Nina Dobrev). Though he has never met her parents, he is thrilled to learn that they will be attending the wedding — the dinner with both sets of parents seems to go rather well, and plans are progressing smoothly.

That is until there is a robbery at the bank Owen works at. Recalling that he may have told Parker’s parents the voice code of the vaults while intoxicated, he begins harboring suspicions against them. From what is shown in the trailer, it seems as though Owen joins the parents and the rest of their gang, the Ghost Bandits, to help them pull off the heist.

The Plot Seems to Take an Insanely Funny Turn

As mentioned, Adam DeVine and Nina Dobrev star as the soon-to-be-wed couple. Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barker play the McDermotts. Their chemistry as a married couple in the trailer is promising, with well-timed comedy and banter. The reference to James Bond increases the excitement to see Brosnan play for the other side of the law. Also part of the cast is Julie Hagarty and Richard Kind as Browning’s parents, Michael Rooker as Agent Oldham, Poorna Jagannathan as Rehan, Lil Rey Howry as Tyree, Blake Anderson as Cousin RJ, and Mo Gallini as Boris.

Along with starring in the film, DeVine and Brosnan had a hand as producers alongside Adam Sandler, and up-and-coming comedy director Tyler Spindel (The Wrong Missy) also directs this film.

Expect the Beautiful and Unexpected

Similar to the 1979 film, The In-Laws, starring Peter Falk and Alan Arkin (and the later 2003 remake with Albert Brooks and Michael Douglas), The Out-Laws will follow a similar pattern of realization that the in-laws may not be all they seem. However, it seems to have a few twists of its own — this time, the engaged couple will be a part of the action, with Parker in danger and Owen doing his best to save her. Plenty of intense car chases, robberies, and other action sequences woven with comedy are sure to make this film a delight.

The Reasons for Anticipation are Many

Based on the mastery of the trailer, with numerous cinematically beautiful sequences, well-themed music, and a sneak peek of the tone and comedy of the film, it’s sure to be a delight to watch. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait too long — Netflix will release Out-Laws on July 7.
