The Legend of Zelda Rumored to Make Its Cinematic Debut

Zelda Movie

After the success of the Super Mario Bros. movie, Nintendo may be collaborating with Universal and Illumination once again.

Fans of the beloved video game franchise, The Legend of Zelda, have reason to celebrate (or brace for the worst) as rumors swirl about a potential movie adaptation. Recent reports suggest that Nintendo, in collaboration with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, is set to bring the iconic game series to the big screen.

Unveiling The Rumor

Speculation regarding a Legend of Zelda movie began when The Hot Mic podcast reported on the rumor that an animated film based on the game series had been greenlit by Nintendo. While details are scarce, the mere mention of a potential Zelda film sent the gaming community into a frenzy of excitement and anticipation.

Collaboration with Illumination

Once again, it seems Nintendo would be collaborating with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, who recently developed The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The film, which earned a spot as one of the highest grossing animated films of all time, was received well by fans of the series, but many also hold concern Illumination will not be able to skillfully capture the essence of The Legend of Zelda series. With an abundance of rich characters, mythical creatures, and epic quests, fans of the series fear a Zelda film will need to be much more complex than a film for Mario.

An Expanding Nintendo Universe

This cinematic endeavor signals Nintendo’s growing interest in expanding its intellectual properties beyond the gaming world. The success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has likely encouraged the company to explore new avenues of storytelling and engage with a wider audience. With The Legend of Zelda boasting a passionate and dedicated fanbase, the film could serve as a gateway for newcomers to discover the enchanting world of Hyrule.

Big Stakes for a Big Franchise

While true confirmation about any forthcoming Legend of Zelda movie remains largely under wraps, the rumors and reports surrounding its development have generated immense reactions within the gaming community. As fans eagerly await more news about the film, the expectation continues to grow for what could be a groundbreaking cinematic experience for fans of the iconic video game franchise.

The latest Legend of Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is available now on Nintendo Switch.
