It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s…Superman!

Actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have officially been cast as Clark Kent and Lois Lane in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film.

As everyone has waited in anticipation for the new DC Cinematic Universe to roll out, one of the biggest and most crucial concerns on the minds of fans worldwide was who would take up the mantle of being the new Superman. Well, that question has been answered and confirmed.

David Corenswet, known for his performances on the Netflix series Hollywood and A24’s Pearl, has won the role after news of a shortlist was circulated that named himself, Nicholas Hoult, and Tom Brittney as the frontrunners. The role can potentially cement Conrenswet as a leading man if he can work well to help bring Gunn’s iteration of Superman to life. Rachel Brosnahan also beat out a shortlist of talented suitors, such as Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor to be cast in the role of Lois Lane.

Brosnahan is best known for her role as the titular character in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and had a breakout role in Netflix’s House Of Cards. The six actors were reported last week to have participated in screen tests with one another. It was even reported that several scenes were shot with the three male leads donning the classic red and blue suit.

James Gunn has said this new iteration of Superman would be somewhat of an origin story and would require a fresh face when the film was first announced, with Co-CEO Peter Safran adding that the plot would focus on, “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.” With the shock of losing Henry Cavill as Superman despite him never having a chance to fully embody the role as fans expected, there is a calming quality to having a new face to place into Gunn’s plans.

Gunn is set to direct the upcoming Superman: Legacy film with partner and Safran attached to produce. Gunn is also credited with writing the screenplay for the film, so it stands to reason that he would want to have his hands all over the production. Now that the two protagonistic leads have been cast, focus is now diverted toward who will become Superman’s arch enemy, Lex Luthor. Reports have stated that Alexander and Bill Skarsgard are in the running for the role along with Nicholas Hoult now that Superman has been cast.

Superman: Legacy is set to be released on July 11 2025.
