What To Expect From Season Two Of Heartstopper

heartstopper season 2

The Paris Trip, Truth or Dare, Big Revelations & More!

Heartstopper Season Two Returns on August 3rd!

On August 3rd, the highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s hit show Heartstopper will be released on the streaming platform. Based on the comic books written by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper is a coming-of-age story that follows Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) as they navigate high school and all of the hardships that come with being teenagers. What starts as a beautiful friendship eventually turns into a romantic relationship, with both boys coming to terms with their feelings for one another. The first season of Heartstopper was praised by audiences for its authentic storytelling of LGBTQ+ teens, book-to-screen accuracy, and for putting a happy queer story on viewers’ screens. Many people are extremely excited to see what season 2 of Heartstopper has in store, so let’s dive into it.

Will Season Two of Heartstopper Be Book Accurate?

The first season of the show followed the plot of the first two volumes of comics pretty religiously, with a few liberties being taken to add new characters and side storylines to make the series more adaptable for the screen. The second season of Heartstopper will follow the events of the third volume in the Heartstopper series. Many fans praised the show’s creators and writers for featuring scenes in the show that directly mirrored what happened in the comic books. It is safe to say that this diligence and attention to detail was put into the creation of season 2, so fans should expect to see some iconic scenes featured in the third volume of Heartstopper on the screen for the second season.

Many important storylines and characters featured in the third Heartstopper volume—such as the Paris trip, the introduction of Nick’s brother, and more serious discussions of mental health—have already been hinted at being featured in the second season. As the Heartstopper comics progressed, Oseman featured more serious content in the novels, such as discussions of mental health, self-harm, and eating disorders. As the show continues, these topics will most likely be featured throughout the show, and it is incredibly important for young adults to see these topics discussed on screen and to know that they are not alone in their struggles.

Season Two Trailer

On July 25th, Netflix posted the official trailer for season 2 of Heartstopper, thus allowing many suspicions about characters and featured storylines to be confirmed true. It is looking like season 2 will heavily follow the plot lines that are featured in the comic books, and many fans are stoked to see the book pages come to life. The trailer alone featured many iconic book scenes, such as the infamous Nick and Charlie hickey storyline and Nick’s adorable way of greeting Charlie on their first day back to school as a confirmed couple. The trailer hinted that this new season will contain a perfect balance of lighthearted and fun material while also dealing with heavy topics, such as coming out to family members and dealing with sexuality as a young teenager.

Where Will Season Two Start?

The ending of season 1 left Nick and Charlie in the incredibly exciting and vulnerable stage of confirming their feelings for one another and entering a relationship. Season 2 will start with Nick and Charlie dealing with the ups and downs of their new relationship and navigating a world in which they are together. There will most likely be no time jump indicated between season 1 and season 2, similar to how the comic books follow the story progression. Season 2 will also feature the show’s beloved side characters, such as Tara (Corina Brown), Darcy (Kizzy Edgell), Tao (Will Gao), Elle (Yasmin Finney), and Issac (Tobie Donovan), and what they are up to in the upcoming season alongside Nick and Charlie.

Returning Cast and Newcomers

Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Will Gao, Yasmin Finney, Tobie Donovan, Corina Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Rhea Norwood, and Jenny Walser have all been confirmed by Netflix to be returning for Heartstopper’s second season. With the return of old characters also comes the introduction of new faces. Since the second season will be following the progression of the third volume of comics, new characters who were featured in that novel have been confirmed to make their first appearance in season 2. Netflix has announced that seven new characters will be featured in the show’s upcoming season, with the most prominent introductions being Nick’s family and the character of Sahar Zahid.

In season 2, Nick’s family will play a crucial role in his development as a character and his storyline. While his mom has already been introduced in season 1, played by the lovely Olivia Colman, season 2 will feature the introduction of Nick’s dad and brother. Jack Barton will play Nick’s older brother, David Nelson, while Thibault de Montalembert will play Nick’s dad, Stephane. Many fans who have read the comics are very interested to see this family dynamic portrayed on screen, and fans can expect to see some heartbreaking and aggravating storylines come with the introductions of these new characters.

Another popular character who was featured in the Heartstopper comics and who will be making her debut in season 2 is Sahar Zahid. Sahar is a beloved character from the comics who ends up befriending the whole gang of characters. Sahar is going to be played by actress Leila Khan, and fans are excited to see the portrayal of her character on screen.

Other characters being introduced this season include Nima Taleghami playing Mr.Farouk, a teacher at the boys’ high school; Bradley Riches as new student James McEwan; and Bel Priestly as Naomi and Ash Self as Felix, both playing students who will befriend Elle.
