Ferrari Film Receives a Six-Minute Standing Ovation

Ferrari

An Emotional Cast And Audience At This Year's 2023 Venice Film Festival

From director Michael Mann (Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Ali) and starring headliners Adam Driver (Enzo Ferrari), Penélope Cruz (Laura Ferrari), and Shailene Woodley (Lina Lardy) the emotional and dramatic one-and-a-half-minute Ferrari trailer features momentary frames of actors Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz alongside speeding Ferraris and the only dialogue of “If you get in one of my cars, you get in to win.” With the trailer released only one day before the 2023 Venice Film Festival, Ferrari received a six-minute standing ovation yesterday at the Venice Film Festival with Adam Driver seen visibly emotional at the audience’s reaction to the film while embracing costars and director Michael Mann.

Victory In The Wake of the Strikes

This is clearly an emotional time in the industry, as the writers’ strike passes 120 days, and the actor’s strike passes the 50-day mark. Driver made headlines the morning of the premier by publicly defending the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike. Driver stated, “Why is it that a smaller distribution company like Neon and STX International can meet the dream demands of what SAG is asking for —the dream version of SAG’s wish list, but a big company like Netflix and Amazon can’t?” Driver asked the press.

“And every time people from SAG go and support a movie that has met the terms of the interim agreement, it just makes it more obvious that these people are willing to support the people that they collaborate with, and the others are not.”

What Is Ferrari About?

Based on the book by Brock Yates, “Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine,” the film “Ferrari” is set during the summer of 1957 as Ferrari (Adam Driver) struggles to keep his company afloat, while facing trauma in his personal life amidst battling with arch local rival Maserati for supremacy on the racetrack. Ferrari bets all on the Mile Miglia, a 1,000-mile-race across Italy. The supporting cast includes Shailene Woodley, Gabriel Leone, Sarah Gadon, Jack O’Connell, Patrick Dempsey, and Giuseppe Bonifati. Michael Mann shot the film on location in Ferrari’s hometown of Modena.

“Ferrari” will open in theaters Dec. 25 from Neon. It will next serve as the closing night selection of the 2023 New York Film Festival.
