Taylor Swift Breaks Major AMC Record

First Music, Now Film for Swift

It’s been a year of multiple wins for Taylor Swift, but she’s not stopping yet. On August 31, The Eras Tour Concert film was announced to hit AMC theaters on October 13, 2023. Following Swift’s impressive streak, it came as no surprise that the announcement and sales of the concert film tickets began breaking records. In less than 24 hours after the trailer dropped, Swift’s film “shattered records for single-day advance ticket sales revenue,” resulting in $26 million worth of tickets already sold. Alongside Barbie and Oppenheimer, it’s clear that Swift will play a major role in the revival of movie theaters after things began slowing down post-pandemic.

Blockbuster Potential

Swift’s advance ticket sales surpassed AMC’s previous record-holder, Spiderman: No Way Home, by a significant margin. Spider-Man reached $16.9 million while the concert film made $10 million more than that. It looks like Marvel heroes aren’t the only superheroes to dominate theaters and ticket sales. Swift has everyone under a lavender haze as she sent millions flocking to grab a seat at the theater. The concert film has already sold out of 250 screenings across AMC theaters. The frenzy caused by the film’s announcement and reaction showcases its potential to rise amongst the blockbusters in terms of earning potential. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out once the October 13 release arrives.

Other films releasing the same week as Swift’s concert film, such as Universal’s The Exorcist: Believer, ended up moving their release date a week earlier than planned in order to avoid overlap with The Eras Tour Concert filman understandable decision once they saw the impact the film made less than three hours after its announcement. Nobody can outdo Swift right now. Alongside other movies trying to grapple with the waves The Eras Concert film has made, every theater wants in on Swift’s success. While the film is going to major theater chains first, such as AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, smaller chains are requesting to screen the film as well.

A Projected Massive Hit

The Eras Tour Concert, dropping on October 13, 2023, is expected to be a massive hit. Tickets are going for $19.89 (we see what Taylor did there) and will be playing at least four times per day at AMC theaters on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until early November. AMC is not taking this release lightly and is giving it the blockbuster treatment, which is only fitting for the woman ruling the music industry (and basically the world right now). Posters, custom popcorn buckets, and cups will be available for fans who get there before the doors open. It’s been a long time coming, but fans will soon be able to experience The Eras Tour scene on the screen and go through all ten magical eras of Swift’s music career.
