First Look at “Goosebumps” Disney+ Reboot

You’re in For a Scare… and Maybe a Laugh

Generations of kids have grown up on R.L. Stine’s eerie Goosebumps books and the mid-90s TV show of the same name. Now, a new take on the series is creeping to Disney+ just in time for Halloween.

A New Take on a Childhood Classic

A recent article from The Wrap showed off the website’s 35 most anticipated shows coming to TV screens this fall. On this list, the news outlet gave readers their first look at the upcoming Goosebumps reboot. The image shared features the main cast of the series — Rachael Harris, Ana Yi Puig, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, and Will Price — wielding improvised weapons as they react in terror to some off-screen threat. Additionally, the article gives a brief synopsis of the reboot: “Inspired by the book series by R.L. Stine, the Disney+ series centers on a group of high school friends who accidentally unearth a nightmare for themselves as they discover a sinister secret hiding in their town.”

This first look hints towards a much different take on Goosebumps than the original 90s show. Rather than directly adapting the serialized stories in Stine’s books, this new Goosebumps will instead follow a recurring cast of characters on an original adventure. The story will also have a more comedic tone than the source material, falling closer in line with the 2015 Goosebumps film. The tonal similarity makes sense, as director Rob Letterman is not only directing the series pilot but will serve as a writer and executive producer for the show as a whole.

Where and When to Watch

New and old fans alike won’t have to wait much longer to sink their teeth into the latest adaptation of R.L. Stine’s work. While a specific release date is unknown, The Wrap has confirmed that Goosebumps will premiere this October. Episodes of the teen horror comedy are expected to drop throughout the month on Disney+.
