Fallon and showrunner Chris Lord held a Zoom meeting with staffers to address the report

After weeks of investigation into the workplace environment at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host has apologized to his staff. But will the apology allow Fallon to reconcile with his employees, or will they simply leave NBC studios altogether? Here’s everything audience members need to know.

The Investigation

Several sources have investigated the workplace environment of The Tonight Show, Starring Jimmy Fallon, regarding allegations of an unhealthy work environment. It has been confirmed that the beloved late-night host and showrunner Chris Miller have apologized to his staff.

Fallon faced numerous allegations from both former and current employees. They claim that Fallon exhibited erratic behavior and the leadership for the show was constantly changing, which made for an unhealthy work environment.

Fallon’s Apology

Both Fallon and Miller spoke to staff members via a Zoom call. While on the call, the host and Miller reportedly gave a lengthy groveling apology to their employees. The employees claim Fallon said in part, “It’s embarrassing and I feel so bad. Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends… I feel so bad I can’t even tell you.” Fallon concluded by saying “I want the show to be fun [it] should be inclusive to everybody, it should be the best show.”

Fallon and Miller also addressed concerns about the show’s constant leadership changes. According to employees, Fallon made a point to say that current showrunner Chris Miller was here to stay.

Despite Fallon’s effort to make amends, many in the media have written off his apology, saying this is another example of a prominent figure taking advantage of their staff. However, others have noted that employees are too quick to complain about their supposed unhealthy work environment.

Other Hosts Facing Backlash

Fallon is not the first prominent host in recent years to face allegations of a toxic work environment. Other hosts such as Ellen DeGeneres, Drew Barrymore, and Kelly Clarkson have also had numerous claims made against them. With more allegations constantly emerging, various outlets have shifted their stance on the allegations facing other hosts. Once an investigation is conducted and more so-called evidence comes to light, outlets are quick to shift the conversation from blaming the hosts and calling out younger generations for being overly sensitive.

While many have said it is a step in the right direction that employees are speaking out and standing up for themselves, many also think that they are looking for something to complain about. The blame regarding the various complaints has landed on Millennials people born between 1981 and 1996 and Generation Z people born between 1997 and 2012 as the older end of the generation has begun to enter the workforce. Similar to Millennials, Generation Z often faces stereotypes of being sensitive, lazy, and unmotivated.

What to Expect for Fallon’s Future

Ultimately, the allegations made against Fallon and his team will pass sooner rather than later. Now that he, along with showrunner Chris Miller, have apologized, hopefully those working for the host will accept the apology and move forward. It is worth noting that compared to other hosts facing similar controversies, their show ratings have steadily dropped or plateaued, whereas Fallon’s have remained about the same since the controversy was first made public.

Given that the successful late-night host has had a career spanning over 20 years, he has garnered mass amounts of loyal fans over the years. This speaks to his star power and how he can attract audiences even in the face of controversy.
