A Special Guest Star For the Series' Threequel?
Superhero films such as Deadpool are easily among some of the most anticipated films to release in theaters. When Ryan Reynolds announced the update regarding Deadpool 3’s production in September 2022, fans were ecstatic to hear that Hugh Jackman would be cast, honing his claws again as the Wolverine. But another rumor speculates that Jackman might not be the only guest star in the third installment. Some are wondering whether Daniel Radcliffe could make an appearance in the future movie.
Daniel Radcliffe Cast in a “Secret Role”?
Since the Disney-Fox merger agreement and the beginning of the multiverse saga, fans have been speculating which actors could play the new members of the X-Men team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of these actors is Radcliffe, who many agreed would best fit the role of Wolverine. The star shares similar features, with a height of 5’5” and a ripped physique, which is nearly accurate to the 5’3” Wolverine in the comics. But with Jackman now reprising his role as the mutant in Deadpool 3, that may no longer be the case. However, a recent report claims that the Harry Potter star will still make an appearance in the film in a “secret role.” Some speculate that he may take on the role of a variant Wolverine, but as of now, no other information has been confirmed.
The New Wolverine?
The idea of Radcliffe playing Wolverine is nothing new, as the star has opened up about it before. “So many times, people come to me like, ‘Hey man, heard the Wolverine news, that’s pretty cool.’ No, I don’t know anything about it. Like, I appreciate that somebody is clearly going like ‘Wolverine’s actually short in the comic books, you should get like a short guy to do it!’” Radcliffe said. “But I don’t see myself. I don’t see them going from Hugh Jackman to me. But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel.” While Jackman still holds the title of the berserker mutant, it isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility for Radcliffe to do another portrayal of the character, as he seems open to the idea.
Deadpool 3 Plot and Release Date
Although Deadpool 3 has yet to reveal any information regarding its plot, set photos have shown actors Ryan Reynolds and Jackman wearing comic book-accurate suits for Deadpool and Wolverine. Fans are also led to believe that the film will be the catalyst for joining the Fox universe into the MCU’s multiverse saga. This idea stems from the ending of Deadpool 2, where Deadpool uses Cable’s Time Travel Device to save Vanessa and perform other hilarious gags. It is possible that Marvel’s TVA could also become involved, bringing along actors Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson as Loki and Mobius from Loki. But again, this remains to be pure speculation.
Deadpool 3 will be directed by Shawn Levy. Other actors such as Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, and Rob Delaney will also be making their return to the film. Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, production for the film has been paused and will now be pushed back to May 3, 2024, for release.
