New Spy-Thriller “Argylle” Teases An All-Star Cast in First Teaser

Argylle

Cats Got Your Tongue

The teaser trailer for the spy-thriller Argylle was released by Universal yesterday. The film will not be released until 2024, and there was much confusion surrounding the release of the teaser.

The Cats Out Of The Bag

The spy-thriller, Argylle is about a super-spy who is drawn into a treasure hunt that takes him around the world. However, the secret agent’s troubled past could jeopardize the mission. The caption below the teaser trailer explains that Elly Conway’s spy novels start to reflect the activities of a real spy organization, which flips her life upside down. The film is supposed to have an all-star cast, yet the only cast members seen in the trailer are Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World Franchise), Sam Rockwell (Mr. Right), and a cat. The film was confusing as it just showed a cat being thrown off a building by some guy, which shocks the girl he is with, but the audience is left in suspense if the cat lands on all fours or takes a gruesome end. The teaser is less than a minute long, and one thing is clear. The audience has no idea what this film will be about from this teaser. It ends by announcing the trailer will be released on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

Feline Friends

The film is based on the book of the same name by Elly Conway and directed by the twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn has directed films such as the Kingsman movies and Fantastic Four. The film stars John Cena, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson and more. Henry Cavill is playing Argylle, a secret agent, which will be interesting to watch as compared to Cavill’s other roles as Superman in the franchise and Sherlock Holmes from Enola Homes.

Besides being a wrestler, John Cena has been in films such as Barbie, Fast and Furious, Blockers, and Vacation Friends. Samuel L. Jackson has been in the Avengers, Jurassic Park, The Incredibles, and Kingsman: The Secret Service.

The Next James Bond

Argylle was first announced in June 2021, and most information was kept on the down low. Vaughn has described the film as an ode to a 1980s action thriller. Vaughn casts Cavill as the token spy because he believes Cavill was born to play Bond. Furthermore, the director wanted to cast him before someone cast him as James Bond. Argylle is expected to become a franchise film, having at least three movies to its name. Though Cavill isn’t featured in the teaser trailer, it’s clear he will play a big part.

Don’t Go Chasing Your Tail

Unfortunately, for the fans excited to see this spy thriller, the release is pretty far off. It’s currently scheduled for February 2, 2024, in theaters and will be released on Apple TV+ later on. The teaser left audiences to believe the film might be a little weird, but hopefully, a good type, considering the all-star cast. Stay tuned for more information when the cat is let out of the bag with the release of the full trailer and clips from the film that will explain the plot more on September 27.
