The TikTok Trend Continues to Reveal Surprising Facts

The popular TikTok trend that revealed baffling information to women about men has reached as far as Hollywood.

The director behind some of the greatest films of all time, including The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and The Outsiders, has been asked the trending question, “How often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

What is the Roman Empire Trend?

This TikTok trend has been traced back to a social media account by the name “Gaius Flavius,” who is known to be a Roman Empire re-enactor. In an August 19 post, Artur Hulu, the man behind the social media account, first posed the question. In the post, Hulu wrote, “Ladies, many of you do not realize how often men think about the Roman Empire. Ask your husband/boyfriend/father/brother – you will be surprised by their answers!”

The post lit a firestorm as the question went viral, prompting women across social media platforms to ask the men in their lives the vital question. Celebrities such as Ryan Renyolds joined in by informing their followers on platforms such as Instagram and X, formally known as Twitter, that they, too, often ponder the Roman Empire.

Francis Ford Coppola’s Confession

According to Variety in an Instagram post on Friday, Coppola claimed, “How often do I think of Ancient Rome? Quite a lot, as the Roman Republic served as the example for my country America and its institutions, and was the inspiration for my upcoming film Megalopolis.”

Coppola continued by explaining his fascination with the once great empire. “My fascination with the Roman Republic is based on the struggle between the political parties during which the interest of the Republic yielded to the ambitions of a few powerful men who espoused the aims of political parties to establish their own fortunes and authority by relying upon armed forces to achieve those ends, dealing the final blow to a constitution already tottering to its fall.”

What is Megalopolis?

Megalopolis is an upcoming film written, directed and produced by Coppola. The film has been a passion project for Coppola, who began writing the screenplay in the 1980s. The cast includes an impressive line-up of actors including Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Giancario Esposito, Shia LeBeouf, Jason Schwartzman, and many others. The film has been described as a science fiction epic and is currently set to be released in 2024.

Megalopolis will be released in 2024. Stay tuned for further updates on the project.
