Kathryn Newton Tries To Dig Up Someone Special In This 80’s Horror-Comedy

The first trailer for Lisa Frankenstein has just been released and has put a whole new twist on the classic by Mary Shelley. Get ready for a totally absurd monster couple!

That’s Really Weird, Lisa

Lisa Frankenstein had quite a remarkable first trailer. It’s a little all over the place, as it showcases a girl and her high school crush, who is a handsome corpse. However, as a comment in the YouTube section of the trailer said, “They are leaning into the absurdity of it all.” The film is about a misunderstood teenager and a reanimated corpse who embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness, and a few missing body parts, which certainly speaks to how much drama will be expected. The director is Zelda Williams, and the screenplay is by Diablo Cody, who wrote the screenplay for the horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body.

Undead Friends

This film stars Cole Sprouse as the Creature. Sprouse is best known for his roles as Cody in the Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Jughead in Riverdale, and Will in Five Feet Apart. Kathryn Newton plays the lonely teen and social outcast Lisa, who brings back Sprouse’s Franken boy from the dead. Newton is best known for her roles of Millie in the horror/comedy Freaky and Allie in the canceled Netflix series The Society. Others joining the cast are Jenna Davis from M3gan, Carla Gugino from Spy Kids, and Paola Andino from Every Witch Way.

It’s A Waste of Time to Try and Fix a Boy

The film is set in 1989, which is definitely conveyed through the outfits, hairstyles, and atmosphere of the trailer. More information following this film states that Lisa reanimates her handsome corpse during a lightning storm and attempts to turn him into the ideal man by using the broken tanning bed in her garage.

It seems the dark romantic comedy will take a murderous turn as pictures and clips show Lisa with an ax and plotting to bury a body. The trailer shows Lisa kneeing someone in the head and the Creature raising an ax to hit the already wounded person.

Really Hope This Goth Phase Ends Soon

Lisa explains to her reanimated corpse in the trailer that her friend, Taffy, said, “It’s a waste of time to try and fix a boy. It’s better to just accept a guy’s flaws.” As a corpse, it’s expected that he has many of those. Whatever Lisa is going through looks more than just a phase as she gets blood splattered on her face in the trailer and dances in a forest with a corpse.

Lisa Frankenstein will hit theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 9, 2024.
