The series was created for television by writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, and also stars Tadanobu Asano, Yûki Kedôin, Eushin Lee, Tommy Bastow, Hiroto Kanai, Emi Kamito, Hiromoto Ida, Kengo Hashimoto, Sen Mars, Toshi Toda, and Mako Fujimoto.

A full trailer for the series was released recently, showing off the action-packed storyline. Shogun is adapted from James Clavell’s best-selling novel of the same name. It is also one in a six-book saga of deeply researched novels, where Clavell tells standalone stories that are supported by his deep research and understanding of Asian warrior culture during the 1600s. 

“When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village, its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), comes bearing secrets that could help Toranaga tip the scales of power and devastate the formidable influence of Blackthorne’s own enemies — the Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants,” the series’ synopsis reads. “Toranaga’s and Blackthorne’s fates become inextricably tied to their translator, Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), a mysterious Christian noblewoman and the last of a disgraced line. While serving her lord amidst this fraught political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her newfound companionship with Blackthorne, her commitment to the faith that saved her, and her duty to her late father.”
