Aang Takes Flight!
Surprise, surprise! Another live-action Netflix adaptation is just around the corner. So far. they managed to get it right at least one time with the one piece adaptation. Here’s to hoping.
Anticipation Is in the Air
If nothing else, fans can expect absolutely stunning visuals from the upcoming series. The opening shots from the new teaser showcase the start of the Fire Nation’s invasions. Prince Zuko and General Iroh (played by Dallas Liu and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, respectively) make their appearance and both of them seem believable — nothing like that time Dev Patel got cast in the role because people were still obsessed with him in Slumdog Millionaire. As great of an actor as he is, Patel is too charming to be a villain. Dallas Liu seemingly won’t have the same issue, since he seems to hold that same untamed fury as his animated counterpart; the same goes for Daniel Dae Kim who makes for a convincing Fire Lord Ozai.
Even Aang’s furry pals, Appa and Momo, make an appearance. They have an uncanny appearance because of the CGI, but it kind of works. The titular character is played by Gordon Cormier, who seems to be a better fit than Noah Ringer. To be fair, the only real requirement for this part is that the actor can pull off the bald look.
Bender of Expectations
It feels like deja vu saying that plenty is riding on this adaptation. That wouldn’t just be due to the fact this is a popular anime (what’s the point in arguing over it?) but also because there’s already been a live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender directed by none other than M. Night Shyamalan. The man known for having a twist in almost every film gave viewers one of the biggest twists in film history — a horrible movie. So, not only is the live-action going up against the original source material, but also an infamous film. It’s hard to imagine something beating M. Night Shyamalan’s adaptation, but this is Netflix so anything is possible.
The first season of the live-action adaptation is set to have eight episodes and will be streaming on Netflix on February 22, 2024.

A lover of gore and over the top violence, no movie can make my stomach squirm. The only thing better than a bloody death scene is a well choreographed stunt. Whether it be action or horror, if it has blood in it, then I've likely already seen it. |
