Dead Boy Detectives Finds a New Home
Dead Boy Detectives has arrived at Netflix, its new home, alongside The Sandman. Despite almost being vaulted, the show has made its resurrection on a new streaming platform.
Dead Boys Coming to Netflix!
Dead Boy Detectives is officially set to air on its new home, Netflix, despite originally being scheduled to stream on MAX. The show is based on the characters that Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner created. Dead Boy Detectives follows two teenage boys who solve mysteries together. Oh, and they are both ghosts too. The trailer showcases a lot of characters fans might recognize from the comics. Streaming platform MAX had ordered the series back in April of 2022. It was reported earlier this year that the series would be moving to Netflix instead. This jump to Netflix is due to the show not fitting the new direction that MAX has planned for its DC content. Yet another show that could have disappeared due to the new management of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Luckily, Netflix saved the show by picking it up for their platform instead, and fans can enjoy the series.
Cast & Why the Jump to Netflix Fits
It’s rare for a show to jump streaming platforms mid-season, but it’s even more rare for one to jump streaming platforms before the first season has aired. Dead Boy Detectives’ jump to Netflix fits well since the original characters first appeared in The Sandman comics. Netflix is also the home of the live-action The Sandman Series, with a second season on its way soon. This pairing helps the move to Netflix make more sense and may even open the door to crossovers. Of course, that will be up to many other factors as well.
The Dead Boy Detectives main characters are Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew), Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), Crystal (Kassius Nelson), a clairvoyant, and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura). Steve Yockey developed the series. Yockey is also an executive producer and the series showrunner. Other executive producers include Beth Schwartz, Leigh London Redman, Sarah Schechter, Jeremy Carver, and the man himself, Neil Gaiman. Fans of The Sandman or Neil Gaiman should look out for Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix. No release date has been announced as of yet, but keep an eye out for more updates!
