Garfield and Odie take on a high-stakes heist with Garfield's long-lost father.
The lovable, always-hungry orange cat is finally returning to the big screen in The Garfield Movie. Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment have released the first trailer for the animated comedy, which will be coming out this summer. The film is directed by Mark Dindal and written by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgrove, and David Reynolds. Jim Davis, the creator of everyone’s favorite comic strip, cat, is also on board as the film’s art director and executive producer.
What’s The Lasagna Loving Cat Up To Now?
The movie’s official synopsis reads: “Garfield, the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure. After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.” Based on the trailer, viewers will also be getting a little introduction on how Garfield gets adopted by Jon, or rather, how Garfield “adopted Jon” as he puts it. The heartwarming sequence shown in the trailer is only amplified by the animation style. It looks like it’s going to be a fun, wacky film for fans and newcomers alike while still maintaining the charm that made Garfield so popular in the first place. So get ready for a wild ride (and lots of food, of course).
The Cast
Chris Pratt will be the voice of the Monday-hating, Lasagna-loving cat. His previous voice-acting experience includes Emmet Brickowski from The LEGO Movie and, more recently, Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, making him a great prospect to have in this movie. Garfield’s father, Vic, the street cat, will be voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, who also has voice acting experience, as he played Mace Windu in The Clone Wars and Frozone in The Incredibles. Based on the pair mentioned above, the cast and skills already seem promising, but they will also be joined by Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillen, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang.
The Garfield Movie will be in theaters on May 24, 2024 (don’t worry, it’s not a Monday).
