Black and White and Blue

They Kept The Red, and There is a Lot of It
A special edition “Black and White and Blue” episode of Blue Eye Samurai titled “All Evil Dreams & Angry Words” has been re-colored, rescored, and released on YouTube to view for free.
Creator Micael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) announced this special action-packed episode of the provocative and visually stunning show via his X account. All colors but black, white, blue, and red have been spared, and there is a lot of red when Mizu takes down at least 12 men at once.
Fighting not only bare-handed but with her katana, this phenomenal show has only been out for two weeks and already has a very strong fan base who want a second season. In this episode, Mizu fights her way to the top of a fortress. The color pops in this episode because it is used to illustrate the changes in either the environment or in Mizu herself.
The episode is re-colored by Toby Wilson (The Mitchells v.s. The Machines) and Natasha Leonnet (Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse) entirely in black and white, reminiscent of classic Chanbara films like The Seven Samurai and Yojimbo. The black and white color calls back to the films of Akira Kurosawa while still keeping the blue in Mizu’s eyes as a symbol of her character. The color here really pops. Blue is utilized to be symbolic of Mizu because as a woman samurai; she is a twist on the classic samurai tropes.
It has also been rescored by Amie Doherty, a composer who worked on Marvel’s She-Hulk – traditional Japanese instrumentation has replaced the original music used in the episode. The change is noticeable when compared to the original, as traditional Japanese instruments immerse viewers deeper into the world of Blue Eye Samurai.
“Relive the most action-packed & stunning episode of Blue Eye Samurai with this SPECIAL EDITION version.”
