Blumhouse Drops Chilling First Trailer for “Imaginary”

Some Childhood Toys are Not What They Seem

On Thursday, November 16, Blumhouse dropped a chilling trailer revealing their upcoming horror film, Imaginary. What starts off as a heartwarming childhood visit back home quickly devolves into a nightmarish reality involving a stuffed bear, paranormal activity, and an old friend from the past.

Imagination Becomes a Haunting Reality

Blumhouse’s trailer for their new horror film, Imaginary, revealed some hair-raising footage. The story follows a young woman named Jessica who decides to visit her childhood home. Everything seems to be normal at first until her youngest stepdaughter, Alice, finds a stuffed bear named Chauncey sitting alone in the basement. Alice quickly bonds with Chauncey and begins playing games with her new friend. The trailer shows her collecting various items and checking off a list with Chauncey’s promise of showing her where he’s from. However, what starts as an innocent game devolves into a twisted nightmare. She begins inflicting self-harm with seemingly peaceful objects, draws frightening images, and gets kidnapped when she turns against Chauncey.

Soon enough, Jessica turns to a medium for help, and the medium explains that “every culture has entities that tie to the young. We call them imaginary friends […] when that connection is severed, the entity becomes enraged.” Shots of Jessica facing demonic creatures, walking through eerie hallways, possessed people, and her house burning play over as the medium explains this. Towards the end of the trailer, Jessica is seen reading Alice’s checklist, and a demonic figure is found looking over her shoulder. Then, for a final teaser, it ends with a man whom Chauncey kills in a hallway.
