One of Netflix’s Most Beloved Shows to Hit London’s West End

An early Christmas gift comes to sci-fi horror fans. West End’s Phoenix Theatre will be bringing one of Netflix’s most popular series on stage in Stranger Things: First Shadow.

From Screen to Stage

On July 15, 2016, Netflix members experienced the beginning of one of the most popular sci-fi horror shows of the new century. Stranger Things tells the story of mysterious supernatural occurrences that surround the town of Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s. Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the series has continued for four seasons and will be releasing a fifth and final installment in the future.

Between alien-like creatures, tunnels of smoke, and villains with names based on Dungeons and Dragons characters, it is almost hard to imagine how it will fit on stage. However, the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End has taken up the challenge after previous great hits such as Come From Away (2019-2023) and Chicago (2018-2019).

A great sigh of relief is brought to any fans who wanted new lore to come from the original creators, as the Duffer brothers have played a key role in bringing the script to life. Previous Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry as well as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child writer Jack Thorne have also joined the writing team. It is being directed by three-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry.

What to Expect

Stranger Things: First Shadow will focus on Jim Hopper (Oscar Lloyd), Bob Newby (Christopher Buckley), Joyce Maldonado (Isabella Pappas), and Henry Creel (Louis McCartney) as they uncover strange happenings in Hawkins, Indiana over two decades before the events of the Netflix television series. The new play will provide a deeper insight into the world before the upside-down that causes havoc for the small-town families in the Netflix series.

Fans can currently find previews online for this new original story and will be able to experience it live starting December 14th, 2023. The title of the first act has been released early to bring insight to fans: “Chapter One: The Girl from Nowhere.” As of now, there is no word of the show coming to the States.
