‘Tekken 8’ Demo Is Now Available For PS5

The demo lets players access the first chapter of the game's story mode as well as local versus fighting mode.

Tekken 8 is nearly here, with its release scheduled for January 26, 2024, a little more than a month. What could be better than that? How about the upcoming release of a Tekken 8 demo? Even better is that it’s coming out on December 15, 2023 (this week).

Pass the Controller

First things first, while the demo is set to release December 15, it will be exclusively available to PlayStation for the time being. The demo will eventually become available to Xbox and PC users one week later, on December 21. While timed exclusives are nothing new in the gaming industry, it’s odd to see the practice extend to demos.

The purpose of exclusive games is often to entice people into buying a specific console. The fact of the matter is that the game itself isn’t even exclusive to PlayStation, so the demo being a timed exclusive makes no sense. The only reasonable explanation would be Tekken’s roots lying in the original PlayStation, which was the only home console outside of arcade machines to host the game.

An Appetizer

Exclusivity aside, fans can expect to play through the entire first chapter of Tekken’s story mode, which follows the long ongoing infighting amongst the Mishima clan. While a little family dispute never hurt anyone, this ongoing feud has lasted over twenty years! Some people would literally rather kill their entire family than go to therapy. Unlike Tekken 7, which focuses on Kazuya and Heihachi Mishima, this newest entry will focus on Kazuya and Jin Kazuma. Various new mechanics introduced in Tekken 7, such as rage arts, will also return.

The demo will include a local versus mode for anyone wanting to squash their beef with a friend like the Mishima family. Other newly reported game modes will likely not appear in the demo, but that just means that players will have more to be surprised about when the wait is over. The main game is also set to have an astounding 32 playable characters, but it’s still unclear who will be available in the demo.

The full release for Tekken 8 is scheduled for January 26, 2024. What better way to start off the new year than with a new challenger?

A lover of gore and over the top violence, no movie can make my stomach squirm. The only thing better than a bloody death scene is a well choreographed stunt. Whether it be action or horror, if it has blood in it, then I've likely already seen it.
