Christmas is the happiest time of the year, which means lots of caroling, heartwarming memories, and cozy movies. However, it’s not often that a Christmas movie will leave its viewers hiding under their covers. If you’re looking for a new horror movie to watch this Christmas season, there is one worth watching. 

A Christmas Nightmare 

On December 12, the horror film A Creature Was Stirring (2023) was released on streaming services. Follow Faith (Chrissy Metz), a nurse whose teenage daughter is prone to psychotic episodes. In order to fend off the terrifying and mysterious affliction, Faith keeps her daughter securely locked in her room and subjects her to several experimental drugs. However, when two burglars break into their home during a Christmas blizzard, they quickly discover a horrifying and long-kept family secret. It turns out that there is a lot more to this mother-daughter relationship, which involves a demonic entity lurking in the shadows.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the director shared some thrilling aspects of the movie. “For genre fans, this film has it all: a spectacular practical monster, unexpected twists and turns, and the phenomenal talent of Chrissy Metz in a kind of performance no one has ever seen from her before,” said LeVeck. “All of these elements are further amplified by the incredible abilities of Annalise, Scout, and Connor, who are already much beloved mainstays of the horror community. Fans will relish each actor’s dark transformation for this twisted tale, which—paired with Tate Steinsiek‘s unparalleled ability to bring nightmares to life on-screen—elevates this film beyond even my wildest expectations.”

Cast and Where to Watch

A Creature Was Stirring is directed by Damien LeVeck and written by Shannon Wells. It was produced by Damien LeVeck, Aaron B. Koontz, Vladislav Severtsev, and Natalie LeVeck. The film stars Annalise Basso, Scout Taylor-Compton, and Connor Paolo. Also in the cast are Chrissy Metz, Danielle Munday, George Schichtle, Brisbyn Hood, and Nicole Holmes.

The movie is available now to stream on Apple TV, Vudu, and Amazon Prime Video. It has an R rating for violence, bloody images, drug content, language, and sexual references, with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
