The Mayor is Making a Return

The Mayor is making a return. After series production was delayed due to star Jeremy Renner’s near-fatal snowplow accident earlier this year, Mayor of Kingstown season three is set to start production again, with filming beginning in January.

Following the renewal of a third season earlier this year, production was halted indefinitely. On January 1, 2023, Renner was involved in a snowplow accident where he suffered acute chest trauma and 30 broken bones. The accident put Renner in the hospital until January 17, when he was released to continue recovering at home.

The Series Thus Far

Mayor of Kingstown was created by Hugh Dillon and Taylor Sheridan, the man behind numerous popular series including Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and 1883. Along with being a creator and executive producer on the series, Sheridan penned the entire first season and two episodes from the second season. As of now, it is unknown how hands-on Sheridan will be for the writing of the third season.

The series follows Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) as he takes over as “Mayor” in the fictical town of Kingstown, MIchigan after the death of his brother. In the town of Kingstown, incarceration is a booming business, paving the way for corruption to thrive in the prison system. McLusky works as a mediator throughout the prison unit, working alongside the police force, street gangs, and prisoners to keep the peace.

Renner’s Condition

Renner was able to start walking again, with the aid of a cane, ten weeks after the accident. His quick recovery and survival from the incident were likely due to his health and fitness, as reported by his doctors. Three months after the accident, Renner sat down for an interview with Diane Sawyer and ABC News, where he went into detail about his condition. He said, “I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.”

In November, eleven months after the accident, Renner showed an astonishing recovery. He shared a video on social media of himself skipping side-to-side down a long, angled driveway, as well as jogging back up. The video demonstrates his miraculous recovery over the course of the year.
