Adam Driver Confirms He’s Officially Done With ‘Star Wars’

Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

Kylo-When Will Adam Driver Return? Never.

Adam Driver will not be returning as Kylo Ren in any Star Wars media. The actor confirmed the fate of his character and his plans regarding the everlasting franchise in a recent interview.

The End Of Kylo Ren

Driver’s character arc leaned toward the dark side throughout the sequel trilogy that follows the original 1977 trilogy. Kylo Ren, also known as Ben Solo, goes through a lot throughout the movies, such as being neglected by his parents, almost getting killed by his uncle, and killing his father. It isn’t the happiest of storylines to follow. The conclusion of the trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, sees Kylo sacrificing himself for Rey, thus closing his arc and ending his story. This, however, was not the original plan for the character, as the writers were considering having Kylo descend deep into the dark side and his villainous ways. Resurrection is not usually prominent in the Star Wars universe, but returning as a spirit is (for example: Qui-Gon Jinn, Yoda, and Anakin Skywalker). This very well means Kylo could make an appearance, but when Driver was asked if he would be returning to the franchise, he responded: “They [the producers] are doing stuff, but not with me—I’m not there.” That’s the end of Kylo Ren.

What Now?

Despite the finality of Kylo Ren’s story, fans were still wondering if Driver would somehow be incorporated into the franchise’s future projects. His recent comment put the rumors to rest and closed out Kylo’s story for good. Still, even though Driver exited the franchise for good, the Star Wars universe still expands infinitely and there are many more projects on the way.

Dawn of the Jedi is one of the projects on the table that will be directed by James Mangold. The story will take place 25,000 years before the Skywalker saga and will show just how the Jedi came to be. There is also talk of another trilogy coming to screens that will continue to follow Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker as they fully flesh out her character. For now, it is tentatively titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order and filming will start this year. In a franchise with such longevity, it is natural to see actors come and go; some goodbyes are permanent while others are not. For now, Driver is officially exiting the Star Wars franchise but the stories continue to be told.
