Neve Campbell Says She Would Do ‘Scream 7’ Under “The Right Circumstances”

Neve Campbell Says She Would Do 'Scream 7' Under "The Right Circumstances"

“I Love This Franchise. I Would Hope it Doesn’t Fall Apart.”

The fate of Scream 7 is currently in peril after controversy ended with the project losing its lead actors and director, effectively stopping the film completely in its tracks. However, the original lead actor recently spoke up about whether or not she will return.

Sidney Prescott May Return

Over the weekend, Scream (1996) lead Neve Campbell told Indiewire that she would be open to returning to the beloved franchise; however, it would have to be under the right circumstances.

“It’s sad to me that they’re struggling at the moment. I would imagine that the people at the top are spinning a little bit. Trying to make the right decision. I would imagine people want to do the right thing. I would hope,” Campbell said. “I love this franchise. I would hope it doesn’t fall apart.”

After being asked if she would ever return to play Sidney Prescott, she had this to say:

“Given the right circumstances, yes. I made a statement several years ago, and it was the reason I didn’t do [Scream 6] at the time. I just really felt the need to stand up and say that I don’t believe I would’ve been treated that way had I been a man carrying a franchise for 25 years. And that still stands.”

Campbell didn’t return to Scream 6 because she wasn’t being offered the money she felt her role was worth, so this may be one of the main hurdles if Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment want Sidney Prescott to return to Woodsboro.

Why are Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega Not Returning for Scream 7?

Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega led the successful return of the Scream franchise with Scream (2022) and Scream 6 (2023). The duo played a pair of half-sisters whose lives were entwined with the original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis, played by Skeet Ulrich.

However, Barrera was fired from Scream 7 after posting on social media in November 2023 regarding the Israel-Hamas war. At the time, Spyglass Entertainment responded in a statement saying they had “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form.”

After, Barrera responded in a statement via social media that she was using her platform as an actor to “raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need.” Adding also that, “First and foremost I condemn Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people.”

The following day, news broke that Jenna Ortega had also left the project for reasons unrelated to Barrera’s exit.

Then, in December 2023, Scream 7’s director, Christopher Landon, announced that he had dropped out of the film, referring to the whole situation as a “dream job that turned into a nightmare.”

Needless to say, bodies were dropping left and right, but hopefully Sidney Prescott returns to save the sleepy town of Woodboro once more, because currently, Scream 7 is without a lead actor or director.
