Jordan Peele’s Next Project Brings Horror Onto the Field

Jordan Peele and Universal Studios have announced their next film together. They will produce a sports-themed psychological horror film titled Goat starring Marlon Wayans.

Jordan Peele Hits the Field

According to an article from Deadline, Jordan Peele has begun work on his next film. Peele, his studio Monkeypaw, and Universal Studios will create Goat, a sports-themed psychological horror with Marlon Wayans set to star in it. However, Peele will not be the director, with that title going to Justin Tipping, known for directing 2016’s Kicks. The film itself is based on a speculative screenplay from Skip Bronkie and Zack Akers and follows a rising athlete who trains under their retiring MVP, played by Wayans.

Who is Marlon Wayans?

One of the biggest pieces of news regarding the film was Marlon Wayans’ casting as a main character, as many are wondering if he can carry this role. Fortunately, Wayans has proven himself as an actor. He first rose to prominence starring alongside his brother Shawn on the sitcom The Wayans Brothers and would go up from there, including the two uniting for the cult classic White Chicks. Furthermore, he has proven himself in horror films such as Scary Movie and the A Haunted House duology. In between them, he is also famous for several streaming specials, such as 2018’s Woke-ish

Can this Film Work?

As Peele has shown, he is a master of psychological horror. His most famous example thus far is his directorial debut Get Out, which combines deep suspense with biting social commentary. Additionally, his subsequent films Us and Nope have garnered similar acclaim. While the world of sports is an odd place to set a psychological horror, Peele’s mastery over the “social horror” genre has shown he can turn anything into an equally terrifying and introspective journey. Blumhouse as a whole has also earned a reputation in the horror world, including the recent Five Nights at Freddy’s adaptation. Until then, we’ll have to wait until this game’s season starts.
