Slimer, The Iconic Green Ghoul Returns in ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’

‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ reveals the first returning image of Slimer.

The Notorious Ghost Returns for the Sequel

Ghostbusters: Afterlife served as a legacy sequel to the original two films from the 80s, bringing together familiar faces back to the big screen. The inclusion of numerous characters from the original film, such as the three surviving Ghostbusters, the Stay-Puft-Marshmallow Man, and Gozer, mixed with the new younger cast, all blended together to create a nostalgic trip.

Notably absent from Ghostbusters: Afterlife was, arguably, the most recognizable character from the series, Slimer. However, recent images have shown the lovable ghoul will not be skipping out on the new film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Slimer’s Big Return

The new image presents fans with a clear image of how Slimer is going to be depicted in the upcoming film. Slimer appears to be created through practical effects, similar to the 1994 film. It has yet to be revealed if Slimer is a creation of practical effects or CGI, but the more realistic approach this image presents does help to continue embracing the essence of classic films.

It also helps to separate Slimer’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire appearance from the last time he appeared in a movie, which was in the divisive Paul Feig Ghostbusters film, where CGI brought him to life.

What’s Goin’ On?

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a follow-up to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, directed by Gil Kenan, with the screenplay written by Jason Reitman and Kenan. Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Paul Rudd, and Carrie Coon are all set to reprise their roles from the previous film. Additionally, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and Annie Potts are expected to have larger roles rather than their cameo appearances in Afterlife.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire follows the Spengler family as they move to New York City to help out the original Ghostbusters, who developed a secret lab to bust ghosts. However, the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force known as the Death Chill, which seeks to create a second Ice Age.
