Disney+ Announces ‘The Marvels’ Release Date

Marvel’s newest flick, “The Marvels,” is officially coming to Disney+ in early February. Teyonah Parris, Brie Larson, and Iman Vellani star in "The Marvels."

And It’s Sooner Than You Might Think

The Marvels is already available for rent or purchase, but Disney just announced the official release date for the latest Marvel flick on Disney+.

When Is It Coming Out On Disney+?

The Marvels, the 33rd movie in the gargantuan Marvel Cinematic Universe, is being released on Disney+ on February 7, 2024. That marks an extremely quick theaters-to-streaming period of about two months – The Marvels was released in theaters on November 10, 2023, and was already nearing the end of its theatrical release during the first week of December. Needless to say, The Marvels is the lowest-grossing MCU movie of all time, with a worldwide box office gross of $206.1 million on a $220 million budget. These numbers made it one of the biggest box office flops of 2023 and are particularly catastrophic, considering the film’s predecessor, Captain Marvel, grossed more than $1.1 billion back in 2019.

The terrible financial result contributed to pushing the idea of “superhero fatigue,” meaning a sense of weariness amongst superhero movie fans. Will its performance on Disney+ make up for its losses?

What About The Movie?

The Marvels follows the story of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Ms Marvel (Iman Vellani) facing off against Dar-Benn, a Kree leader who wields the power of Ronan The Accuser’s hammer. While fighting this cosmic threat, the three protagonists begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers, adding a certain unpredictability to the plot. At the same time, the movie itself failed to capture audiences worldwide also due to a lackluster marketing campaign and an overexposure of Marvel content on Disney+. It felt too reliant on previous MCU content that was released on the streaming service but didn’t meet the success previous theatrical-only entries in the franchise faced.

The Marvels will be released on Disney+ on February 7.
